Its $15 a month.

The only things you can "buy" via the game are appearance items / housing stuff.
The only thing you might consider gameplay effecting from a $ point is that you can buy a flying mount and skip the quest, but the quest aint bad.

D3 = pay2win.

As with any game, you can buy plat/gold / currancy online from koreans for $$$, however, you wont need to if you come play cause ill give ya plenty if you are serious about giving it a go. If you have raided on other games I can get you up to speed and raiding here for to, from there its super easy to get plat / gear.

Rumor was long ago, eq1 was gonna do that shit, they however learned real fast, and EQ2 has never had useful items being able to be bought with cash, just appearance items / mounts / house stuff.

Ever since Star Wars: The Old Republic was announced, it was a sure thing that we'd see the Hunter Killer assassin droids in the game, and indeed Bioware has released a teaser trailer announcing the appearance of HK-51, a few models down the line from everyone's favorite meatbag-loathing machine, HK-47.

Presumably, the droid will appear in the game as a player companion, though how he'll be unlocked for characters isn't yet apparent. The trailer mentions an ancient ice base where
"scores" of "the most dangerous machines in the galaxy" exist, so there will likely be a bit of story and questing to go through to find this model and use it.

And let us be clear: You had better go get that droid, meatbag.

My theory, is that after i get back from Astan and finally get back up on a system to play it there will be so much new content for me that it will actually hold my attn for a few months

2.0 should be pretty awesome as the major patches keep getting better and better.

sadly by the time there is enough content for my interest to be sparked, I'll be knee deep in my fall semester.

GW2 comes out in a month. Last weekend's beta was a lot of fun and it will be a very cool game. I am rolling an Asura Engineer for my first toon.

I dont think there has been a game recently that the super nerds in RS and other places havnt ripped to shreds.

Every MMO gets compared to WoW and if the mega WoW players dont get every little minute feature and option they could possibly want they flip out and cry so fucking hard.

Seriously getting annoying how hard some of these people cry about games.

To be fair, game developers have no excuse to not cater to the people fleeing from wow. Games like SWTOR and TERA realized this but were still too little too late.

I loved SWTOR. But stupid easy content, dead servers and a less than memorable pvp environment killed it hard for me.

trying to cater to them is fine.

its just when its kids crying about one thing then getting it and then others crying that they added whatever it is the others were crying about.

its a lose lose for devs anymore.

gamers these days expect wayyyyyyy too much.

gamers who pay monthly subs feel very entitled. but i think im not going to waste my time with another game unless it is as polished as wow.

swtor and tera were amazing, but couldn't last.

My feelings exactly. I loved the SWTOR element, but it needed the gameplay to coincide with that world they created.

WoW was nowhere near "polished" when it first came out. It got there over time with a lot of patches.

Lol. Yes, I know this. I said this hundreds of times on forums and in chat during swtor. I defended swtor tooth and nail with this statement, but bioware dropped the ball hard. This is 2012 not 2004, there isn't excuses to not listen to your audience.

Blizzard is seeing the exact same thing occur with Diablo right now.

I understand that, but from my reading of forums, if they listened to every single whining post they would have those games going in so many different directions no one could keep up with it all.

Some of the requests are obvious and both games have been working on them from what ive seen, but there was some crap that ive seen people saying that is just bitching and isnt legitimate.

The biggest issue with SWTOR was the servers. Had they had very few servers on launch and launched new servers as the beginning ones filled up then they would have been much better off and i dont think people would have had AS many issues.

Still some issues that seemed like they might have not been preventable and needed the community playing it to uncover.

Same with Diablo, some things just needed that massive amount of people playing to be able to see what needed to be changed. Beta testing isnt a true test of a game imo.

Im looking forward to getting back and playing both games after deployment. I doubt they will just say fuck it and drop development of either game any time in the next couple years.

I never played GW1 so I cannot compare the two. The GW2 beta has improved greatly in the last several months and I think it will be a solid game (for a few months anyway). No monthly sub is nice as well. I really look forward to seeing our guild back together more than anything.

I played both and GW2 is much better IMO. I hated the whole aspect of having to quest to get skills. GW2 allows players to play how they want. Not to mention their cash shop is the first one to make since and not be "pay to win" like a lot of others are. And they actually made Guilds worth being in and PvP feels just right.

At the end of every week, we round up the best and most popular news stories, exclusive features, and insightful columns published on Massively and then present them all in one convenient place. If you missed a big MMO or WoW Insider story last week, you've come to the right post.

This week, Blizzard announced that World of Warcraft's Mists of Pandaria expansion will launch on September 25th, just a month after Guild Wars 2 opens for pre-purchasers. GW2, meanwhile, is keeping busy in the wake of its last beta event with videos, guides, dev blogs, and name reservations. Massively shared its own impressions of the third BWE in articles about the Asura, the Sylvari, and Legacy of the Foefire.

Bring your /popcorn past the break, where we've rounded up the rest of this week's top MMO stories.

EA BioWare is making the jump to lightspeed -- and free-to-play. That's right: As of this fall, Star Wars: The Old Republicwill transition to a hybrid F2P business model.

Players who choose to engage in free-to-play will be able to experience a majority of the game for free, including the first 50 levels and all eight classes. BioWare did state that there will be restrictions, but those can be removed with microtransactions.

SWTOR will still be available in the standard subscription model. Subscribers will be given an allowance of store currency, called Cartel Coins, to buy customizable gear and other niceties. Current subscribers and those who sign back up before the fall can also rack up special rewards for when the transition is made.

BioWare GM
Matthew Bromberg said that this is the next logical step for the game: "Players want flexibility and choice. The subscription-only model presented a major barrier for a lot of people who wanted to become part of The Old Republic universe."

Check out Massively's recent
Hyperspace Beacon column on why F2P was inevitable for the game. BioWare's also posted a F2P FAQ with all the nitty-gritty details and a letter from the executive producer.

[Update: During this afternoon's investor call, EA President
Frank Gibeau revealed that SWTOR subs have dipped below one million but are still "well above" half a million. Forty percent of those leaving do so because of subscriptions. The game claimed 1.3 million subs last May and had leveled off at 1.7 million in March, having sold in the range of 2 million copies. Gibeau hopes the new F2P model will win back players lost to churn.]
