Default Can someone help decipher what this scanner is telling me? Catalytic related.

2005 suburban 5.3 with 215k miles. Runs good and makes good power. I'm getting code po420 catalytic converter out of efficiency. I borrowed this sweet scanner from a friend it's an autel maxidas. I took a video of the O2 monitoring. At steady cruise 70 mph, Bank 2 sits steady at 675mv but bank one hops around. Is this a bad cat? And is going to get me home? I'm 1/4 way through a 1200 mile trip.

Bad cat would be the most common cause. If it's not the cat then probably an O2 sensor somewhere.

You should have an upstream and downstream on both banks, do you know which one you are looking at, up or down?

In the video the dials are showing the down stream for each bank. The upstream seems to be switching actively between 100-800mv. You can see the upstream numbers above each dial in the video. And I'm told this scanner I'm using is a maxisys.

Bank 1 catalyst appears to be dead from what data is shown in the video.

There should be very little variance in downstream O2 readings under cruise conditions as can bee seen by Bank 2 Sensor 2 readings.

Usually a dead secondary O2 sensor will trigger a different code, and you have to look at other things like fuel trims, etc. But like I said before, based on the switching voltages and frequency seen on the primary OI sensors, I don't initially suspect anything else.

That is unless I have been out of the business too long and have forgot how these systems work.

Would you need to see the fuel trims and the O2 sensors at the same time?
