Default The Prize of Your Collection

Just curious if anyone has something on the shelf or in the fridge that they are clinging to in wait of that special occasion.

I have always loved the Christmas Ales and winter seasonals as I loves me some sweet and dark beers. Anchor has a great series, and their 2010 version was the best of the past decade. It tastes like gingerbread cookies-

I'm not sure when I will open this, but plan on doing so before the end of the year.

Anyone else clinging to a prize?

I can't keep nice stuff around the house.

I had some blue label I was going to save half for after I got a new job. I finished it after the first 2days.

I probably keep WAY too much around for "special occasions".

Beer-Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout or The Bruery Black Tuesday 2011

Booze-Pappy 20 yr., last cracked for my wedding party in 2011 and Pappy 23

I think the CBS will about take the cake for this thread.

I have a PVW20, but it's almost gone :/ My 23 is still sealed

Just thought this thread needed an update. I have had 2 seperate "special occasions" since my last post, and I have popped both RR beers.

Supplication Batch 003

This was on its way out with the quickness. It had little carbonation, but more than some shelf lambics I have opened. The Sour cherries were up front, followed by the sour bouquet familiar to the other RR sours. There was a wonderful sweetness along with the malts, and a super dry earthy finish which I am guessing from the oak wine barrels. I do not think that it is in anyones best interest to sit on a bottle of Supplication this long (7 years), but it was still very drinkable.

Temptation Batch 003

This was a dead beer. There was no pop when the cork was removed. No carbonation. Very little amounts of sour flavors left. The bottle says something along the lines of "Is it beer or is it wine?" I think this beer accomplished the transformation into wine. It tasted like a tart chardonnay. Super earthy mouthfeel, with a white wine finish. It was strange. I have no idea what to think about it. Very interesting experience.

Now I need to acquire more things for special occasions.

I have a 09 dogfish head 120 min IPA I got from a member off here. I also have two boxes full of limited release beers chilling in my rents basement. Unfortunately I'm sure most of it is not suppose to age. Oh well

Does anyone in the Kansas City area sell dogfish head beer? No one does in Wichita and a few years ago, they were not shipping their beer west of the Mississippi.

Well, moving to KC will get me closer to where they sell it. It'll get me closer to schlafly which, IMO, makes the best damn pumpkin beer out there.

No problem

Last fall me and my wife bought as much as we could carry in 6 pack bottles. It goes fast around here. We had enough to last us till Christmas.

I'm the one with dogfish. I usually stock up when out of town or get my bro to ship me some. FYI, DFH is available west of the Mississippi

Love the 20 year, even more than the 23. I just wish it was as easy to find as it used to be.

The closest to KC that has DFH is either Chicago or Denver. My mom was in Memphis a few weeks ago and she found some there. She brought back Palo Santo and some 90 minute.

You also should have no problem getting your hands on just about as much schlafly pumpkin that you could want.

I don't usually keep anything around for "special occasions," but any chamagne made by Moet & Chandon (makers of Dom Perignon) is good in my book. I will usually pick up a few bottles at a time and spread them out to be had with good food or company. Ironically, I prefer some of their cheaper stuff ($50-$80/bottle) to Dom.

I am not too picky on beer, but if I am drinking something other than mass produced beer, I prefer to do growlers from local breweries.

My Fiance got me a bottle of Templeton Rye (she's from Iowa) for our second Christmas together. When I looked at the back, it happened to have been bottled on the same day as our first date. I told here we were either going to drink it at our wedding reception or she just funded my blackout when we break up.

Shafer Hillside Selects from 02 and 03. 02 will be opened when I hit a gross income milestone.

Nothing else unopened unless its for aging purposes. I buy booze to drink it, I just savor some a bit more.

I drank the other two boxes, but these are getting aged. These are at a bit over 2 years now (I hear the sweet spot is at about 4-5yrs)
