Again, I'm likely hoping it could be better... and it might not be able to. But thank GOD this asshat decided to off himself so quickly. He could've tripled or quadrupled the dead.

If it's going to take police over an hour to find a gunman, we have no way to limit body count... that's an obscene timeframe.

Police were at Sandy Hook in 2- 4 minutes... average response nationally is 18 minutes.

With hotel security and PD, I just think it could be faster.

I would agree, there's always room for improvement. Unfortunately it takes incidence like this to "wake us up" to all types of possibilities.

I read it took 96 minutes to kill the texas tower shooter, and they knew right where he was. Police weren't trained to deal with that back then, but still....

Completely unverified so take this for what it is, but supposedly Melbourne antifa claimed this guy and then deleted the post.

https://ibb.co/kgrDyw

Didn't the shooter previously live in Melbourne? Thought his brother said he did..

Anyone else read anything about this??

The building has an addressable fire alarm system. The smoke from the gunfire set the alarm off, then they knew where he was.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...-officer-says/

Quote:
The SWAT team used the alarm triggered by the smoke to zero in on Paddock’s position in about 20 minutes — not nearly enough time for a floor-by-floor search of the hotel, which has 3,309 rooms and a 135,000-square-foot casino.

My God, how can you not do the visual assessment to determine where gunfire was coming from that broken window at the Mandalay Bay? Isn't this cop 101? I can understand time to mobilize SWAT, but over an hour? Weird. I guess I need to read more to fully understand.

All speculation and agenda fake news at this point. Once it's all said and done, I would bet it's likely that either this guy leaned hard to the left or right and was fed up with what was going on in this country.

That's actually a decent grown up response dave.

Either way, the guy is a terrorist. Plain and simple. The casino said he has stayed since Thursday so this is obviously planned. He didn't just snap. He hid this from his GF and from others. I'm not sure if he had political leanings at all, doesn't seem to fit the bill for extreme right as they usually would target a left wing crowd. Maybe extreme left but if he truly didn't have any leanings then a I guess a music gathering was sufficient enough for him. I'm sure we will all know soon but I will say if he was tied to antifa, it will be hushed up and the story won't be on TV that much. We all know that.

Even though our country is in some weird times, it's still no reason to go kill a bunch of people. No matter who you are or where your from, you don't go shooting up a concert full of people.

In the end, I'm glad he is dead so the families don't have to deal with a long drawn out trial, they have already suffered enough and a trial would take years. I hope these families can heal and find the energy and motivation to move on with life.

After watching that video, its horrifying to see all those people still standing there wondering whats going on right at the beginning, with all those shots going off. And after hearing the gunfire, I can say that sounds NOTHING like any slidefire or enhanced trigger AR Ive ever shot or seen being shot, this jihadists arsenal sounded full auto.

Have you not watched the videos posted? There are several that show the hotel while the gunfire is going on, and at that distance you don't see muzzle flash and you certainly don't see broken windows.

22K people couldn't figure out where it was coming from, so you think the cops can just show up and figure it out? The guy was firing from a raised platform, prone, inside the room. The only reason they found him when they did was because the smoke alarms were going off inside the room from the gunfire.

I think your over estimate your armchair quarterbacking ability in this case.

Didn't the gunfire go on for over 30 minutes though? When people are being indiscriminately shot and having upper body wombs, wouldn't one think this is coming from a high point, thus a police officer should look upwards within a few minutes. Given the rapid fire and that it's at night, couldn't one could see the flashes from both the gun and it lighting up the room? Wouldn't security and parking staff at the hotel see and hear a window breaking and gunshots coming directly above them and see the flashes? Perhaps I've got too much Hollywood on the brain. I've never shot a gun at night to see the amount of flash given off.

In this day and age though, the lack of imagination for concert and related venues, schools, public places, etc. have regarding security (or the lack thereof) is boggling to me. Lack of imagination is what got us into trouble in 9/11, Sandy Hook, Miami, etc. I recently went to a concert at Arrowhead and the security was crazy lax. Everyone was setting off the metal detectors, but were still getting waved through. Point is, we're still not taking security seriously in this country.
