Unhappy Lauren Rashelle Hance - 4/29/07-6/22/11

Hello to all on this site. Of course I am a new member, I am Lauren's mother. I have never been on a motorcycle and had always refused to purchase her one no matter how many times she tried to negotiate or bribe (even offered to quit smoking if I bought her one). I am a nurse and had seem many accidents come through the emergency room. BUT SHE LOVED IT! AND SOON AS SHE HAD HER OWN MONEY SHE BOUGHT HER OWN BIKE! I found out when I happened into her garage one day before she realized where I was going.

I am very proud of her as she was committmented to motorcycle safety and I am still confused why she would have gotten onto her own bike with someone she knew was an erratic unsafe driver.

Joel was her best friend and I am so glad that he wasn't injured any more than he was, he is like my second son.

He had spoken to someone regarding people wanting to donate money in honor of Lauren for her son Noah. We have set up a paypal account for donations at the email (mikkihance@hotmail.com). These donations will go into a trust for her son Noah. If you would prefer, I am sure she would smile down upon you if your donations went to an organization that promoted motocycle safety.

I may of met some of you at her funeral, but for those who did not attend you may not be aware that she gave a speech on motocycle safety a couple of years ago and won third place in this National Speech Contest. (she really should have won second!, no really.......she should have, its not just because I'm her mom.......or I would have said 1st!)

Please keep Joel in your prayers, as Lauren is already in heaven and Please Please Please be safe drivers and don't get on a bike with someone you know that doesn't take motorcycle safety seriously.

Thank all of you for your support.

Mikki Hance Mills

I dont know lauren , but still reading the threads had me choked up a bit and the story kind of got to me. its a terrible situation and my heart goes out to you. to come on here and say what you did took courage and I admire that . I hope your doing well, I recently have dealt with losing a loved one for the first time in my life recently , so I can say on some level I can relate. your a very strong woman it seems and I wish you the best in the future , I am truly sorry for your loss.

I often find it difficult to post in these types of threads, especially if it involves people that I haven't had the pleasure to meet. I work with some of Joels family and hearing the story at work is truely heartbreaking. I wish for every family involved the best of luck and they will be in my prayers.

I knew Lauren at school and will contribute w/o a doubt. I have known all to many people who have had accidents on sport bikes. I will be contributing to both funds and I hope that everyone involved has a speedy recovery, whether physical or psychological. Thoughts and prayers are with your family and all others involved.

I'm so sorry for the loss of a loved one. Usually, I try to stay away from these topics as I really have never felt pain like this. I almost lost my daughter a few years ago and it had me a mess. I can't imagine the heartache one must go through during trying times like these. Thank you for coming in here and sharing with us. I will be donating shortly. My family's thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hi Nikki, This is Todd, with the small group that rode bikes to the funeral. As you maybe aware we have started http://www.survivorsoffallenriders.org and the same on facebook. We are planning a memorial ride and fundraiser in memorial ride and BBQ for the 9th of July as we were also going to set up a trust fund for Noah. Feel free to contact me about this event as we will be posting details hopefully by this weekend. Thanks for posting here and I would encourage you to do the same on http://www.kcsportbike.com if you haven't already.

Mikki Mills sent me an email yesterday with some info:

We've opened up an account for him at Bank of the West, 5245 NW 64th Street, Kansas City, MO 64151 (Noah Alexander Hance-Johnson). People can call and donate 816-587-2888 or I also opened him a paypal account at noahhancejohnson@gmail.com.

I've been reading this thread everyday since I first saw it. I wanted to say a few things about lauren.

With Lauren, either you loved her or hated her. She was blunt, in your face, honest, and she really didn't give a shit about what anyone else thought. She constantly strived to be a better person. We all have our moments where we lose ourselves in our emotions and she was no different. But, one way lauren was different than most was, she would think about the things she did a few days later. She would look at the situation from both sides, and see where she made mistakes. Then she would do what she could to improve herself so whatever mistakes she made, wouldn't happen again...

Lauren was a fantastic mother, she loved her son and did everything she could to make his life as happy as it could be. In the summers, she would take him swimming or the water park everyday. In the spring and fall, a trip to the park after day care was a daily adventure. Lauren wasn't the parent that sat on the bench either. She was the mom going down slides, crawling through tunnels, and getting bumps and bruises right next to Noah.

I remember at her funeral how I was asked what my favorite moments I sharred with lauren was... I was upset that I couldn't think of any particular moment. Because with her, it was always fun. It didn't matter if we were at the mall, out to dinner, on vacation, or just sitting at home. We were both sarcastic and would both fire right back. We always loved airing our dirty laundry in public. Saying the kind of things that would make jaws drop and leave people shaking their heads in disbelief of the things we were saying aout each other. While the entire time we both had huge smiles on our faces. In ways, we were so alike and in ways we were polar opposite. But, it worked!

I could go on and on about her. She was everything to me. I loved her like I never thought I could love anyone. I was determined and positive I was going to marry this woman. Giving up parts of myself to keep her happy and never second guess it. It really sucks that someone so driven to learn from her mistakes wasn't given a chance to learn this time. I miss her and ill miss her for the rest of my incomplete life.

Joel I am sorry for your loss. I don't even want to imagine what it would be like to have gone through what you have. I think the only time I ever saw/met her was when you had just got your bike and she was giving you a hard time after our race

Thank you for posting details about your daughter, from all accounts she was a wonderful person. Although I didn't know her she was a part of this community and that makes her a part of all of us. Losing such a young and vibrant person sends shock waves that reverberate with all of us for the rest of our lives. The grief you must be experiencing from the loss of your child is unimaginable to me. I hope you celebrate her life and remember her for the person she was rather than dwelling on the loss you feel at her passing. I'm truly sorry for your loss.
