A little update. Forgive the shitty and lack of pics. I always forget to take them.

On jack stands in the garage. Hardtop headliner is sitting upside down above the seats.

Removal of hydraulic cylinders for convertible top that are above the windshield, they lock the top in place.

2 cylinders ready to be removed in the trunk. They open and close the soft top cover. The silver ones, not the black trunk struts.

Same 2 on the other side already out.

There are 2 more buried in there, that is right behind the passenger seat. There are 2 more on the drivers side. They control the lift/close of the convertible top.

This is the hydraulic suspension valve that was leaking. Luckily you dont have to remove all the lines. The part that leaks is removed with 4 alen screws. Lots of cleaning needed in the wheel wells.

12 Cylinders removed and are currently being rebuilt. Should have them back next week.

Dirty floor.

Clean floor under seat (I forgot to take before of pass side and after of drivers side. No treasures found.

New alcantara headliner, no more saggy vinyl.

I have a friend that will be selling a Silver/Black 2006 S65 with 70k on it. It will probably be listed at ~$25k. Supposedly had over $30k in maintenance done at 60k miles.

Supposedly all of this.

3) Replaced radiato, hermostat, hermostat housing, op and bottom radiator hoses. Coolant recovery tank and cap. Completely flushed and bled the cooling system.
4) Replaced front and rear ABC struts, BC Accumulators, BC pulsation dampeners, nd ABC valve blocks, eplaced 4 ABC High pressure hydraulic hoses. ABS/EPS Wheel speed sensors and ball joints replaced. Mercedes Benz upgraded The ABC valve blocks to prevent leaks. These updates and service alone cost $ 10,000+.
5) 4 New Brake rotors, rake pads, rake sensors, nd brake system flushed and new brake fluid installed.
9) Transmission servicedone, ransmission filters and fluid, nd transmission mount andsending unitreplaced. Both engine mounts replaced.

An example of mid 90's Mercedes over the top engineering, one of the many reasons I love this car. This is the mechanism just to release the backrest so you can fold the seat forward. The handle is chrome plated metal, none of the crappy plated plastic.

Some more lovely German engineering. These are hydraulic valve blocks and lines for the convertible top.

These are some pics of the engine bay behind the headlights. Going a bit anal with the detail. The washer and suspension fluid reservoir were nasty, of course I forgot the before on those two.

Drivers side, I had already started cleaning the frame rail.

Starting the passenger side.

Dirty wires and caps.

Clean wires with new caps, rotors, cap seals. You can also see the passenger frame rail much cleaner.

New plugs going in.

Damn...looks like a fun project.
The sounds those cars make with a set of headers and exhaust is unreal - very ferrari-like.

Beru wires. Great wires, expensive as F. Why would they use hydralics to power a droptop?

Because Mercedes.

All of their convertibles since 1990 use hydraulics.

A little more OCD cleaning this weekend.

Tail lights and bumper removed to clean behind each. I was not super dirty behind there , but clean as new now. Rear bumper is at the shop getting repaired and painted.

Rear wheels and wheel well liners removed and rear wells and suspension cleaned.

Front bumper is off and at the shop for repair and paint too. Front suspension will get a good cleaning this week. Pics to follow.

I'm curious, what cleaning products are you using to get the wheel wells and frame bits so clean? I have never had that good of luck getting 20+ years of dirt and grime out of those areas.

I am using a plastic and leather cleaner by Malco. It is an amazing all around cleaner. De-greases engines, cleans fabric and leather. Just be very careful with leather/vinyl it will discolor if you spray it on directly. It leaves zero residue and makes every thing feel brand new. I was also using water and elbow grease.

A little more work.

Bumpers should be back on this week from paint and repair.

Picked up some wheels, they need tires and could be refurbished but project $$ is running low so we will see.

Passenger front suspension. Did not get pics of the drivers side, it was in worse shape.

Passenger inner fender. The big scuff is when it was driven with the faulty suspension valve and the tire rubbed the inner fender.

Removed body cladding on passenger and drivers side for cleaning. Pics of the passenger side.

After. The black and yellow stains/drips are cosmoline and oil covered cosmoline. Its been there since new and is not coming off without work so no reason to spend tons of extra time cleaning it off.

Drivers side clean.

Prepping to install new hood insulator pad. Looks like it has been replaced a few times before.

Wiper/cowl covers removed to clean any junk out, lube wiper motor assembly, install new cabin filter.

Sometime last week.

Sunday evening.

Suspension will need adjusted for ride height, but going to wait until new tires are on.

Hoping to have this done this week so I can make a few shows before the cold weather.

It runs well. It stumbles on hard accel so have to chase that down. I think its a MAF but with this car it can be quite a few different things including the bio-degradable wiring MB used in 92-95. The car is pre obd2 so code reading comes from counting led flashes then circuit testing.

Eh fast is not how to describe this car. It doesn't blow the tires off the line or snap you head back, its an extremely smooth, press you back in the seat acceleration. Its a lot like an electric car, lots of smooth torque.
