When we first saw the Genovation GXE all-electric Corvette on its stand at the Battery Show 2015, we were given some impressive specs – a three-second 0-to-60 run and a 200-mile-per-hour top speed – all made possible by over 700 electric horses spittin' out more than 600 pound-feet of torque. Turns out, it may just live up to that high-speed hype.

With Bob Simpson – project manager (and EVDrive co-founder) – riding shotgun and multi-record holder Johnny Bohmer holding the wheel and applying a heavy right foot, the battery-powered C6 Z06 hit 186.8 mph on the tarmac of the NASA Shuttle Landing Facility at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. That run puts the GXE in the International Mile Racing Association (IMRA) record books under the heading of "Top Speed Street Legal Electric Car."

According to the press release, which you can read below, the record was set on the car's first day of testing. Its builders have confidence it's good for even more. Though they haven't said if, or where, further speed runs would occur, we can't help but think a one-on-one match up would be interesting, say, against a certain Zombie 222. Similarly fast – it reached 177.8 mph from a dead stop at the Texas Mile – it would make for a classic confrontation. Genovation vresus Blood Shed Motors; vintage pony car versus modern sportscar; DC drivetrain versus AC, the possibilities are endless.

Genovation offers its GXE for $330,000 (or $290,000, if your supply the Vette donor). It features a 6-speed manual transmission, a 44kWh battery pack and is said to be good for 150 miles on a full charge.

FLORIDA (2/29/2016) -- Genovation Cars is proud to announce a new top speed record achieved by its prototype high-performance all-electric Corvette, the Genovation eXtreme Electric or GXE. The vehicle was being tested at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds/Shuttle Landing Facility in Florida, conducting research to improve vehicle performance. During the course of testing, the car broke the record for the Top Speed Street Legal Electric Car category with a speed of 186.8 mph on the date of February 23, 2016.

The record was certified by the International Mile Racing Association (IMRA). The previous record was 177 mph, set by a Finnish prototype car.

The GXE, based on a 2006 Z06 Corvette, includes a state-of-the-art battery management system, inverters, batteries and electric motors that produce in excess of 700-hp and 600 lb-ft of torque. Most GXE parts were designed and built in America.

"We are thrilled that the result of our development testing led to the setting of this record," said Genovation CEO Andrew Saul. "Based on our experience so far, we believe the car to be extremely robust as we set the record on our first day of testing. We fully expect the car to do a lot more."

Several contributors to the GXE effort have helped design and build other record-breaking electric vehicles. Major contributors include: Stafl Systems, Rinehart Motion Systems, EVDrive, AMRacing, Current Ways, Johnny Bohmer and Tony's Corvette Shop.

The Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds/Shuttle Landing Facility is one of the very few places in the world that has the capacity and infrastructure to make speed record runs like this safe. The 3-mile-long and 300-foot-wide runway at the facility was the perfect location for the GXE to break the record.

The car has a range of 130 miles during normal driving operation with a near 50/50 weight distribution and is optimized for a low center of gravity.

Electric Corvette reaches 209 mph, sets new standing mile speed record

Genovation Cars is intent on proving that electric cars can perform. Last year, the Rockville, Maryland, company set the standing mile record for a street-legal electric car and then the land speed record. Now it's at it again.
Running its prototype Genovation GXE based on a C6 Chevrolet Corvette, the company set a new standing mile speed record and a new land speed last week. The hits just keep coming.
Taking off from a stop, with just a whisper from its EV powertrain, the GXE reached 209.0 mph at the Kennedy Space Center's Space Shuttle Landing Facility in Merritt Island Florida. That run topped the GXE's prior record of 205.6 mph.

Genovation GXE sets standing mile record of 190.4 mph

The GXE also covered the standing mile with a speed of 190.4 mph, breaking its previous record of 186.8 mph. Driver Johnny Bohmer has been at the wheel for all of these record attempts.
The Genovation GXE is powered by two electric motors making more than 700 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. They are fed by a 44 kwh electric battery. Genovation works with suppliers for these components but develops the control software itself. The motors are positioned at either end of the car to create a perfect 50/50 weight distribution, but they send the power to the rear wheels only. In normal driving, the car can go 150 miles on a charge.
Soon, you will be able to buy an electric car from Genovation, and the company is promising the same or better performance than the prototype. For the tidy price of $750,000, Genovation plans to sell buyers a C7 Corvette Grand Sport outfitted with its powertrain by 2019. These cars will have unique front and rear fascias, custom interiors with high-end materials, and unique center touchscreens. A total of 75 cars will be offered, and each customer will be able to choose a unique color that nobody else will be able to get. The company is taking orders now.
You can watch two videos of the record standing mile run. The lead video shows the run from the driver's perspective. The video below is a 360-degree view that won't work in the Safari web browser.

220-MPH, 800-HP Electric Corvette Detailed Ahead CES Debut

Genovation Cars' electric 'Vette is going to be more powerful than the ZR1.

Something went wrong. Please make sure you added the video correctly.

Video URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBd0fOAhcPU

Originally announced in October 2016 by Maryland-based Genovation Cars, the GXE will finally make its debut in pre-production metal on January 9 on the occasion of the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Along with the disclosure about the performance EV’s long-awaited public unveiling, the company is happy to report it has updated the technical specifications and now the numbers are even more impressive.
While initially the C7 Grand Sport-based GXE was rated at more than 660 horsepower (492 kilowatts) and 600 pound-feet (813 Newton-meters) of torque, the twin-motor powertrain will actually deliver a whopping 800+ hp (597+ kW) and in excess of 700 lb-ft (949 Nm). To put those numbers into perspective, the new Corvette ZR1 with its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine offers 755 hp (563 kW) and 715 lb-ft (969 Nm).
And then there is the info about performance, just as staggering as the rest of the data listed in the official specs sheet. The sprint to 60 mph (96 kph) will take less than three seconds and top speed will be beyond 220 mph (354 kph). It will all be possible thanks to Genovation Cars’ latest and greatest electric powertrain and battery tech, which the firm says it is derived from Le Mans and F1.
Speaking of the battery, the GXE will feature a 60-kWh pack and that will be enough juice for roughly 130 miles (209 kilometers) of range between charges in an electric ‘Vette set to have a nearly perfect 50:50 weight distribution.
It should not come as a big surprise the GXE won’t come cheap given the performance it will be able to deliver and its limited availability of just 75 cars. Those in the market for an insanely fast electric Corvette will have to spend a cool $750,000 and patiently wait until the fourth quarter of 2019 when customer deliveries will commence. That’s certainly a lot of money to spend on an EV, but then again, the defunct Audi R8 E-Tron retailed for a hefty $1 million.
