I've been wanting to do this for a while but it always seems to be in the middle of the week during work.

Do they happen to be novice friendly?

They're friendly to everyone at Heartland Park.

NASA is having a weekend event May 31 and June 1. http://www.motorsportreg.com is a good way to find events.

I'll be there in September. Actually, most of September I'll be taking off work to hit the track. Hallett, HPT and KS Speedway.

Alright guys couple of questions.

Any reccomendations on what to bring other than some basic tools, fluids? Will this be similar to autocross where you will have a lot of waiting between runs?
Probably not likely but, do they have fuel on site or should I top the tank off before entering?

TIA

Are you doing anything fancy with a set of race wheels & tires or race brakes? Generally a good idea to have fresh brake fluid (less than 6 months old). I bring the tools I need to swap wheels and brakes. Bring a tire pressure gauge and extra oil.. There will be professional photographers taking pictures of your car. If you plan on buying pictures, arrive with a clean car. Do you have driving shoes or thin soled sports shoes? I use a pair of New Balance minimus to drive in. Long pants and a sports car helmet are required.

You will drive for a 20 minute session, take an hour break, and then drive another session. After about 7pm it will be open track.

I like to bring a collapsible camping chair, and weather specific things like sunblock, rain jacket, etc. There is time between sessions to go buy gas from a nearby gas station, it's about 25 minutes round trip. Arrive with a full tank of gas and see how far you get. I bring a small cooler with water bottles and gatorade on ice, you'll want that in June. Bring snacks if you want, the concession stand will be open for dinner.

Bring cash if you want to hit Baby Dolls on the way back home.

That pretty much answers everything. Thank you.

I'll probably use the stock tires, finish them off. Car only has 5000 miles on it, 1500 were babied. Have break pads which will go in here in about a week. Will change oil them too. After track I plan on doing all fluids and sending them out to BlackStone to be tested for wear and see if any metal deposits have occured/ect.

As new as your car is, everything should be fine for this event, and probably many more events.

The testing is mostly for me. I want to make sure the drivetrain is healthy before this Winter in which FI will be added. 50/50 current owners testing either have done this and received excelent results or some pure awful. A buddy of mind sent in his trans fluid and after 2000 miles it was black and filled with metal shavings and premature wear.

HPT registration form check list had this~
"Current annual inspection from PCS, NASAm SCCA, ect."
???

That's for the race car class, not applicable for you.

You guys empty out the car before each session? Was thinking about bringing a duffel bag but, have no idea where to put it if they want all loose items removed before running. Also where you guys typically meet up, parking lot?

There's a small red x shape in the middle of this graphic, that's where you want to park:

I may be wrong, but I think you are way over thinking this. Here is my take as a novice/beginner.

My first event I showed up with my car. I had not replaced the brake fluid, pads, or tires. When you get there, it's easy to figure out where to park. It will be where all the cars are. Tech inspection is mostly for the hardcore crowd. I told them my car was mostly stock and I was a beginner and they could care less. I think I filled out the tech form while they were doing the inspection.

I had 4 sessions which may or may not sound like a lot but I was worn out by the end of the day. I found a spot I liked, I popped the trunk and made a pile on the ground. If someone is going to steal something, it's not going to be the crap I had in a pile, they'll find a nice trailer to rob. I've done autocross once before on the Power Tour. I don't think I could ever do it again. This was so much fun. Before I went out they were nice enough to find some other Corvette guys and one did a ridealong with me. That was an amazing experience and scary as hell.

I've done TX2K, Hot Rod Power Tour, a billion car shows, Drag Week, etc... These guys generally are the nicest, most helpful guys I've ever met. Don't be afraid to start conversation, you'll make plenty of new friends.

Hope that helps.

I know, I just want to be safe as it is a 7 hour drive from where I'm at now (1 way.) So if I'm over thinking it is only because I don't want to get there and have nothing but, fun.

Regardless, Thanks guys.

7 hrs to HPT? Not to dissuade you from HPT, but there may be a track closer to you. Most road courses have some sort of program like this.

I'm signed up for Touring Club next wednesday, July 16th. The forecasted high is only 80 degrees. It should be reasonably comfortable with the track open til 9pm. Going to be a nice opportunity.

I remember when these were $65 for the day. $135 is still a good deal for a track day though.
