The Chevrolet Blazer Is Back As A Crossover

After a silly teaser showing a dude in a blazer, the Chevy Blazer is making a comeback next year as a stylish crossover that lacks the body-on-frame four-wheel drive credentials of its predecessor.

The new Blazer will slot between the Equinox and Traverse crossovers in Chevy’s lineup. It’ll be a unibody structure with front-wheel or all-wheel drive options, but no serious off-roading chops.

Engines are either a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 193 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of torque or a 3.6-liter V6 with 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque, with only a nine-speed automatic transmission available.

Base Blazers start with 18-inch wheels, with the RS and Premier trims getting 20-inch wheels with the option to upgrade to 21-inches. The RS is the one with the blackened accents on the exterior, as well as red touches inside, and the Premier gets chrome trim and dual-tone seating.

The new two-row mid-size crossover seats five, with an eight-inch infotainment touchscreen with available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Wi-Fi hotspot with 4G LTE, six USB ports, and optional wireless phone charging, hands-free tailgate, panoramic sunroof and a towing capability of 4,500 pounds with the appropriate package.

RS and Premier models will get a rear-view mirror camera and automatic cruise control with more safety features to be announced later, and it will go on sale early next year.
I think it looks pretty good. It looks better as a Camaro-inspired crossover than the new Camaro does as just a Camaro.

The front looks okay but everything else is very underwhelming

MORE Pictures Of The 2019 Chevrolet Blazer — WHICH Sibling Does It Take After?

I remember it like it was yesterday.

I was at one of the major auto shows and Agent 001 and I were walking the floor together. Snapping last minute shots and both taking the time to really observe the latest and greatest products.

We were walking past the Audi stand when he pointed to the A8 and said "Why can't they make this [the A8] look like that [the R8]?"

2019 Chevrolet Blazer

At first I laughed and said that's simply not possible. Look at them! And then he explained, no kidding, he means just give it some influence and panache.

Well, it seems like the designers finally have started listening. That's because sport-utility vehicles and sedans are starting to pop more than ever. The latest example is the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer. Looking more akin to a Camaro that's been jacked up and stretched all over, the 2019 Blazer's heavily inspired, inside and out.

Check out MORE shots of the all-new Blazer, below.

No unique powertrain options, unibody, other than looking decent... not sure why to care?

2019 Chevy Blazer: The return of a legendary SUV
New Blazer adds some needed style to the Chevrolet crossover SUV lineup.
Rumors of a new Blazer being in the works have been confirmed with the debut of the 2019 Chevy Blazer today in Atlanta. However, unlike the old body-on-frame Blazer that last graced Chevrolet showrooms during the 2005 model year, the new model is built on a unibody structure shared with the GMC Acadia.
News of the unibody will likely disappoint some fans of the previous Blazer models, but the migration to the more compliant foundation from a full frame is hardly new among SUVs. The Ford Explorer and Nissan Pathfinder have previously made the switch.
A high beltline and larger rear haunches add some sporty appeal to the new Blazer.
Nick Miotke/Roadshow Instead of offering rugged off-road capabilities like the Jeep Wrangler, the new Blazer will instead cater to customers looking for a stylish and versatile five-passenger crossover SUV, which slots between the relatively bland-looking Equinox and three-row Traverse in the Chevrolet lineup. To make more of a visual statement, Blazer designers looked to the Camaro for a little inspiration giving the SUV a wide stance, tall hood, big grille and skinny headlights up front. A high beltline runs along the sides that lead back to the strong rear haunches.
For base-level Blazers, 18-inch wheels will be standard with 20-inchers available. The sporty RS and range-topping Premier will ride on 20-inch wheels or optional 21-inchers. Sleeker and meaner looks on the RS come courtesy of blacked-out exterior accents, while the Premier wears a tasteful amount of chrome for a more premium appearance.

The Camaro design cues continue in the cabin with a center stack that borrows heavily from the sports car with familiar climate controls for the dual-zone system and round air vents. Depending on trim level, different accent bits and colors will dress the interior with the RS getting red touches and the Premier offering a two-tone design theme withgalvanized chrome trim.
Other cabin features include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, sliding rear seat, optional panoramic roof and hands-free power liftgate. When it comes to carrying stuff, the offers 64.2 cubic-feet of cargo space with the backseats folded down.
For tech, the latest Chevy MyLink system handles infotainment with an 8-inch touchscreen, Bose audio, 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot and both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities. There's no shortage of smart device charge options, either, with entry-level Blazers featuring four USB outlets, while RS and Premier get six USB ports and come standard with a wireless charging pad. Available safety technologies include adaptive cruise control and rear camera mirror.

Two engines will be offered with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder producing 193 horsepower and 188 pound-feet of torque serving as the base engine. Those looking for additional grunt can spring for a 3.6-liter V6 with 305 horses and 269 pound-feet that offers an estimated tow capacity of 4,500 pounds. Both engines work with a 9-speed automatic transmission in front- or all-wheel drive configurations.
The new 2019 Chevrolet Blazer will go on sale in early 2019 to battle it out with the likes of the Ford Edge, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Nissan Murano. No official pricing details are available yet, but a base price tag in the low $30,000-range similar to its competitors seems like a good bet.

Looks just like most other SUV's out there. They all seem to copy each other.

2019 Chevy Blazer spied strutting on the streets

Our first look at it in natural light

Though Chevrolet has shown us the 2019 Chevy Blazer midsize crossover SUV in carefully retouched photos and under stage lights, we haven't seen it in natural light until now. One of our spy photographers caught a few examples of the new crossover on public roads. They include the top-end Premier model and the more entry-level LT version.

Overall, we in the office agree that the Blazer looks better in its natural environment. The myriad creases are softened ever so slightly, making it look less busy. Also nice to see is that the Premier (seen in white) doesn't look overly bulky with its body color cladding. The LT also doesn't look too downmarket. In fact, it looks pretty much like the RS, but with chrome and smaller wheels.

The 2019 Blazer will go on sale early in 2019. The LT, RS and Premier trims are the ones we know of right now. There's a possibility of another low-end trim like LT also being available. The standard engine is a naturally aspirated four-cylinder making 193 horsepower and 188 pound-feet of torque with an optional V6 making 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is also standard with two all-wheel drive systems available.

2019 Chevy Blazer Packs Excellent Standard Features For $29,995

The all-new 2019 Chevrolet Blazer will be offered in L, Blazer, RS and Premier trim levels, where the base spec ‘L’ version will have a starting MSRP of $29,995.

Chevrolet will begin selling their latest crossover in early January, offering customers a vehicle that boasts a wide stance, tight proportions and a dynamically sculpted profile, not to mention a very diverse trim range.
“The Blazer’s design offers customers a crossover that can exceed their needs, matching their unique personality,” said Chevrolet marketing boss, Steve Majoros. “Blazer sets a new design language for Chevy’s crossover family and extends our momentum into one of the industry’s fastest-growing segments.”
For example, the RS version comes with a sporty, street-inspired look, says the automaker, whereas the Premier delivers a more upscale appearance.
What’s most impressive though is the list of standard features you get even on the entry-level ‘L’ version. Amenities include: an 8-inch color touchscreen, 4G LTE with Wi-Fi Hotspot, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, electronic locking glove box, Keyless Open and Start, Teen Driver, Rear Seat Reminder, HD Rear Vision Camera, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, heated and power-adjustable mirrors, Traction Mode Select, adjustable sliding rear seat, a six-way manual driver seat and 18-inch wheels.

As for additional available features, there is the Panoramic dual-pane power sunroof, advanced twin-clutch AWD system, Hitch View for trailering, automatic heated steering wheel, heated/ventilated front seats, heated outboard rear seats, Rear Camera Mirror, Wireless charging, up to six USB ports, hands-free power liftgate and a suite of active safety systems such Adaptive Cruise Control.
Powering the 2019 Blazer will be a standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 193 HP (195 PS), although customers can also opt for the 3.6-liter V6 power unit, producing 305 HP (309 PS). Both engines work alongside a nine-speed automatic transmission and feature intelligent Stop/Start functionality.

I think it looks neat, but I don't think it's a Blazer.

Even the S10 based Blazer was okay to me, because it at least maintained the RWD platform. This just seems off.

Agree, front end looks very dodge, everything else looks Mazda.

I think they should have taken more design cues from the 1969 K5s

2019 Chevrolet Blazer Starts From $30k, Tops Out At Almost $49,000

The all-new 2019 Chevrolet Blazer may start at $29,995, but those looking to purchase a high-end model will have to spend much more than that, according to a Cars Direct report.

The Blazer range starts with the ‘L’ trim level, which is indeed priced at a reasonable $29,995 but it’s probable that most buyers will want a little more than what the Blazer L offers.
Sitting above the L in the range is the 1LT, starting at $33,495 including all destination and delivery fees. Like the base model, the Blazer 1LT features a naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine delivering 193 hp and 188 lb-ft (254 Nm) of torque.
Those looking for more grunt can opt for the Blazer 2LT, priced from $34,495 and utilizing a 3.6-liter V6 pumping out 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. Buyers can option an all-wheel drive system for $2700.

Next in the range is the Blazer RS, a variant most similar to Ford’s $43,350 Edge ST. On paper, the RS sounds a bargain at $41,795, but that’s because it comes with front-wheel drive as standard rather than all-wheel drive like the Ford. The Blazer RS starting price rises to $44,695 the moment buyers tick the box for all-wheel drive. Another option for the RS is the $3575 Driver Confidence II Package.
The final Blazer offered is the Premier. This model starts at $43,895 and can be optioned with the Driver Confidence II Package also, now priced at $2165. When all-wheel drive is added, this brings the high-end Blazer Premier’s price up to $48,960.
All in all, these prices make the Blazer slightly more expensive than the Nissan Murano and Ford Edge, two of the models those in the market for a new SUV might shortlist alongside the Chevy.

#LAAutoShow: Get A Load Of The All-new Chevrolet Blazer — Is THIS What GM Needs MORE Of To WIN?

Let's get down to brass tacks, Spies.
It was a rough week for General Motors.

After a slew of bad news and hearing retorts from the President of the United States, it seems that once the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show kicked off things calmed down. In other words, there weren't any more plant closures or announcements of lay offs.

Los Angeles Auto Show

I would consider that good news.

Leafing through the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show photo gallery, I was seeking something new and interesting from GM. And, won't you know it, we got you covered.

Officially revealed in September, the all-new, 2019 Blazer was seen in the flesh by us for the first time. After examining the vehicle thoroughly, I just couldn't help but wonder after this week's news: Is THIS more of what GM needs to be doing in order to WIN buyer's attention?

What say you, Spies?

For the price I'll buy a Traverse instead. Or save some money and just get an Equinox. I know it sits between the 2 and is intended for those who want bigger than Equinox but dont need 3rd row. But I couldnt justify paying that much

They screwed the pooch on this one. It could have been iconic, instead it's just another lame duck SUV soccer mom type thing.

Most Expensive Chevrolet Blazer From Factory Costs $57,175

Check all the boxes for dealer accessories and the price skyrockets to $65,695

Chevrolet has its configurator up and running for the all-new Blazer, and hopefully you were sitting down when you read the headline. The fresh SUV slots into the automaker’s lineup between the compact Equinox and mid-size Traverse, and though it starts at a not-unreasonable $29,995, the price jumps into the stratosphere with all the options and accessories included. Let’s break it all down so you can see where all that money goes.

Entering the Blazer world at $29,995 gets you into the L model, featuring a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine making 193 horsepower (144 kilowatts) turning just the front wheels. The other end of the spectrum is the Blazer Premier with all-wheel drive; that model starts at a much higher $46,795 base price but of course you get far more kit for your coin, not the least of which is a full leather interior and the 305-hp (227 kW) 3.6-liter V6. But wait, there’s more.

2019 Chevrolet Blazer First Drive Reveals More Strengths Than Weaknesses

While its name brings back lots of memories, the Mexican-made 2019 Blazer is as modern as Chevrolet SUVs get.

The modern Blazer rocks a sporty, Camaro-inspired exterior instead of a rugged body such as the K5 Blazer adventure truck from the 1970s and 1980s. That’s because the Blazer is now a road-focused mid-size crossover that targets families and drivers with active lifestyles. While its truck-based predecessors took pride in their off-roading abilities, the 2019 Blazer places emphasis on comfort, practicality, and connectivity.
It’s also sportier than any other Blazer before, including the last one that went out of production in 2005. That doesn’t mean it’s a performance SUV, despite the fact that it comes with an available 305hp 3.6-liter V6 in addition to the standard 193hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder.
Also watch: 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe Won’t Seat Seven, But Has Plenty To Offer
Edmunds’ Dan Frio got behind the wheel of the new Blazer to find out how Chevrolet has reinvented the nameplate. He drove a V6 model and noted that the engine is smooth and produces plenty of power. He also says handling is good for a midsize SUV, although that doesn’t qualify it as a sports SUV.
As for comfort, the 2019 Blazer sports wide seats with good lumbar support but not very pronounced side bolsters — which could be either good or bad, depending on your preferences. Ride quality is good but not perfect; the suspension filters road irregularities well but becomes bouncy on rougher surfaces.
Inside, the new Blazer is a convincing proposition thanks to the roomy cabin, big cargo capacity, and slick infotainment system that offers crisp graphics. Are these qualities enough to make it a worthy opponent for the likes of the all-new 2019 Honda Passport and Hyundai Santa Fe? Only time (and sales figures) will tell.

Is The 2019 Chevrolet Blazer The Medium-Sized SUV Of Choice?

Fancy the look of the Camaro but are more of an SUV person? In that case, the new Chevrolet Blazer might be just the ride for you.

Besides resurrecting an iconic moniker after more than a decade, the new Blazer has nothing in common with its predecessors. Instead, it focuses on modern tech and convenience features, wrapping everything up under a bold new design and targeting those who are in the market for a mid-size SUV.
Camaro-style influences can be seen inside, too, yet the overall vibe is a stylish one. It features the company’s most recent infotainment system, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which is easy to use according to ConsumerReports. Space on the rear bench is somewhat tight for a mid-size SUV, but cargo area is good. Also, picky users will notice some cheap plastics, but nothing that cannot be ignored in the end.
Also Read: Hate Depreciation? Check Out The Top 10 Models That Retain The Most Value
On the go, the new Blazer feels just the way it looks: modern. The handling is good and the suspension does a fairly good job at absorbing most bumps, yet the ride is bound to get bouncier on irregular surfaces.
The 3.6-liter V6 provides sufficient pulling power. It pushes out 305 hp (309 PS / 228 kW) and 269 lb-ft (365 Nm) of torque, and the 9-speed automatic transmission that comes with it provides smooth gear shifts. Base models are, however, offered with a 193 hp (196 PS / 144 kW) and 188 lb-ft (255 Nm) of torque 2.5-liter inline-four.
The 2019 Blazer starts at just under $29,000. This makes it about $1,000 cheaper than the entry-level Ford Edge and $4,500 more expensive than the Hyundai Santa Fe. Go for the V6 and all-wheel drive system, though, and add a few options, and the price exceeds the $40k mark – which puts it into Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC territory.

First Drive: 2019 Chevrolet Blazer Review

Mid-sized Chevy crossover uses best of new tech

San Diego, CA – When last we saw the Chevy Blazer, it was 2005. Mariah Carey was topping the charts. George W. Bush was starting his second term as U.S. president. Hamid Karzai was the new leader of the “liberated” Afghanistan.

And the Blazer? Well, the SUV built on the frame of a S-10 pickup was ready to retire.
Now, after a 14-year break, Chevrolet has brought back a mid-sized crossover SUV under the name Blazer. But, other than the name, you’d be hard pressed to connect the new SUV with the rough-and-ready truck from yesteryear.
Blazer is five-passenger, two-row crossover that fits between the compact Equinox and three-row Traverse.
It is attractive – much better looking – than the original, and displays far superior road manners. Its smooth and quiet ride is a credit to unibody construction, instead of the old body-on-frame. It’s also more fuel-efficient, thanks to stop/start technology, cylinder deactivation in the V6 and a smooth-shifting nine-speed automatic that always seems to know the right gear.
The sporty RS also has high rate suspension springs, heavy stabilizer bars, sport-turned dampers and oversized shock absorbers. Although a relatively tall vehicle, the clever engineers have made this SUV feel very sportscar-like. Photo: Doug Firby 2019 Blazer RS for the Bold Win

Its frisky RS trim level is the hot rod of the family. It has the boldest look, with a blacked-out front end and black up-sized 21-inch wheels (from standard 18-inch). It looks especially good on a bright red body colour. Its engine growl is just loud enough to let you know the optional 3.6-litre V6 means business, cranking out a respectable 305 hp and 269 lb.-ft. of torque.

The Premier trim level is more dignified, with generous chrome treatment on the outside and quality accented leather interior treatment. Automatic heated steering wheel and heated/ventilated front seats tie in with the automatic climate control system. The windows can be opened remotely to let cabin heat out as you approach the car.
All models have HID headlamps mounted low and LED daytime running lights.
New Chevy Blazer’s Redesigned Interior

Cargo space is an impressive 1,818 litres with the rear seated folded. A rail-based system allows the space to be configured and blocked off as needed to secure items, and the rails store neatly in front of the spare tire when not needed.
Some cool features

There are some nifty touches to this vehicle – like a hands-free power liftgate with a light that shines a Chevy emblem on the ground to show you where to swing your foot. Inside, the rear seat slides forward to allow more cargo space and tilts back to allow extra headroom – unnecessary, since a six-footer can easily fit with the seat upright.
New cabin tech

Chevrolet’s updated Infotainment 3 system comes with 8.0-inch touchscreen, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. There are up to six USB ports – even the new USB type-C standard – wireless phone charging, and a subscription-based 4G LTE WiFi hot spot. Active noise cancelling is standard on all trim levels. The rearview camera “hitch view” makes hooking up to a trailer a one-person job.

Updated Ride and Handling

Chevy started with the platform found on the XT5 and Acadia models, but it moved the wheels 44 millimetres further out to gain a squatter, planted feel, said Larry Mihalko, Chevy’s vehicle performance manager.
The sporty RS also has high rate suspension springs, heavy stabilizer bars, sport-turned dampers and oversized shock absorbers. Although a relatively tall vehicle, the clever engineers have made this SUV feel very sportscar-like.

The active yaw control system inputs traction data 100 times per second and adjusts power to each wheel. In hard cornering, it sends up to 80 per cent of the power to the outside rear wheel to push the SUV in the right direction.
Fuel economy

Drivers can also switch to front-wheel drive to cut fuel consumption under highway conditions. Fuel economy ranges around 9 litres/100 km in combined city/highway driving. The stock 2.5-litre turbo-charged four-cylinder offers a marginal gain in fuel economy over the six, and delivers 193 hp and 188 lb.-ft. of torque.
A trip to the hills east of San Diego, Calif., confirms that this is an able highway cruiser, but no off-road bruiser. It comes equipped with street tires and a low front end that would whither at the first sight of a rock.
Even so, there’s much to like in this revived Blazer. The entry-level basic model starts at just over C$30,000 in Canada, is well-equipped and offers good value. The highest trim levels, however, are more than C$50,000 – definitely pushing the limits of the category, which includes Mazda CX5, Ford Edge, Nissan Murano, and Toyota Highlander.
US Pricing

  • 2019 L – $29,995
  • 2019 RS – $41,795
  • 2019 Premier – $43,895
Canadian Pricing

  • Blazer 2.5L FWD – $35,200
  • Blazer 3.6L FWD cloth – $37,400

  • Blazer 3.6L AWD leather – $43,400
  • Blazer RS AWD – $46,400

Takeaway

You don’t have to go high-end to get a fun ride with the Blazer. Whatever configuration you choose, it feels like a sturdy and stable vehicle designed for city and highway driving.

The Blazer is available for order across North America now.
