Default Recommendations: Austin Tx

Anyone have any recommendations for Austin? Spending a long weekend there and still looking for stuff to do. Already have some ink time booked, a city tour, and a few other things, but curious as to what other people think is neat. We are staying around Rainey Street/East Ceaser Chavez area. In short, the town looks awesome but there is A LOT of stuff to go through.

Honestly, on a long weekend, you'll have almost too much to do.

It's been 10 years, but I stayed in Austin for 3 weeks for work. Unfortunately, I was only able to go out once. I hit the 6th street area and had a blast. So much there

Texas Chili Parlor and Franklins BBQ are a must. Hit up 6th street, shit loads of bars.

If you go to Austin and hit a chain you can get all over Texas to experience the BBQ, you're doing it wrong.

Franklin's is awesome, but you'll spend half a day waiting in line, and still possibly not get any BBQ.

6th Street is fun, tons of bars. It's the younger/party scene. 5th and 4th have some of the more chill bars if you don't plan on going entirely crazy. Handlebar is pretty solid for young professionals and has a killer 2nd story patio that kinda overlooks stuff.

Rainey St. is cool as well and more chill than 6th. I'd personally hit 6th first, then walk south and hit some of the more chill bars. You can easily grab a pedicab from the 6th/5th/4th bars to Rainey if desired.

A bit down 6th there is a good brunch place that has build your own Bloody Mary and Screwdrivers and such (different juices and fruit) called Z'tejas that was decent. Juan in a Million has bomb Migas and is just east of 35 a bit.

If you want some super hipster craft cocktails, apparently east 6th is where that goes down now. Also, probably won't hit it up if you're just there for the weekend, but The Moontower Saloon is an awesome bar. It's just a ways south of the downtown and is one of those one and done type bars.

Ummm no. We have this chain in Arizona... their Turkey is one of the best things ever, their brisket is decent, but I'd never recommend someone go to a national chain, when in town for vacation.

The best steakhouse I've ever been to, including one that was double in Vegas... is in Austin.

I highly recommend this place... fucking phenomenal.

Rudy's pork loin is amazing.

With that said, not a must eat when in Austin.

Then the American Way (mag in all the AA flights) had an article about the hidden gem that is Fort Worth, and I got real "this place sucks stay away," real quick, and completely understood it.

Uhh no, Franklins.

Head into the hill country if you have time. Pretty scenery and a few cool little German towns.

IMO, you gotta hit up Torchy's Tacos.

The Cathedral of Junk is pretty neat, and Vince is an intetesting cat to chat with.

So much cool stuff in Austin.

Torchy's is good, it's a chain but started in Austin and is killer. It'd be good for a quick lunch for sure.

Also, I'd make a point to go to Mount Bonnell while there. It's maybe a 15 min drive from the downtown area and gives you a great view of the downtown from up high, as well as the Colorado River and some really awesome housing.
