Alright.

So.

Without spending more than a grand, maybe $1200 TOPS on a great watch... what suggestions (WES!) would you guys give.

I really like the Lum-Tec's, and I tried on an Invicta today. It was priced on sale from about $330.00, and appeared to be of fantastic quality.

I find myself wanting a super durable, tight fitting, larger sized watch... mostly with the "military look". It'd be nice to have one, even at work since we're not allowed to have our cell phones on us in restricted areas.

Lemmie' hear, and maybe see some other suggestions. I'd really like to hear some long-term reviews of the Invicta watches, and their quality.

Lum-Tec I really Like:

Anything else out there?

Go Lum-Tec. Awesome company that makes a great product. Their new line is coming out tomorrow for pre-order. Around KC not many,if any people know of them so it will be unique. Not to mention it is a great watch that if you wanted to could re-sell.

I just started getting into watches and I think the Hamilton watches are neat and is in your price range as well. But I agree, PM Mantooth as he helped me a lot with watches.

all day err day

the fact that you can switch covers for the bands and bezels to anything you want while still looking like a high end watch is more than enough to sell me.

Better to break a $300 watch than a $1200 one

I've been pretty impressed with my Invicta auto diver, especially for less than $80. The automatic movement keeps accurate time, especially for an inexpensive watch. I set it in October and am only 1 minute slow. My only complaint is that I didn't shell out more money for a watch with a sapphire crystal, this "flame fusion" crystal scratches easily. Also the Invicta stainless steel bracelet was fairly uncomfortable, I've been wearing the watch on a Maratac "nato" style band for most of the time I've owned it.

To sum it up: Invicta makes a pretty decent "budget watch" for the money, but once you get over $100-$150 there are MANY better options.

Personally between those 2 options I'd go with the Lum-Tec, but keep looking since there are lots of options. If you like the less-known, more unique brands, I've heard great things about Christopher Ward watches. Check out the forums at watchuseek.com, they are very knowledgable and helpful.

A similar Christopher Ward watch:

I have built up a fairly decent watch collection over the past few years. I am not an expert, but take from it what you will.

Lum-Tec - great quality watch. Even their cheaper ones. I have a B series and an M series watch. Both are great watches. The only thing you really lack is the big name if that is important to you. You can generally save a little money (10% or so on new ones) if you shop around.

Invicta - I have never bought one. They seem to be knock off's of everyone elses' watches. I also generally do not trust anything that sells for 10-15% of its "MSRP." I did find one that I really liked, tried it on, and it felt cheap after wearing some other watches. I am not knocking anyone's watch, I have only tried on one.

Breitling - It would be at the top of your budget, but you could probably get a decent used one or possibly a newer quartz model. You would get the name, but it would be on the lower end. I have a middle of the road one and love it. Services can be pricey.

Sonbol - I do not have one, but if you like the way that the U-Boat watches look, you may look into these. You could get them for around $500-700 or so new, and they have automatic movements.

Movado - They look fancy but are nothing special in my eyes. They do have some neat watches, but I would not get one with the yellow gold plating. I bought one and within 2-3 years, it had scratched of on the bottom - but I am hard on my watches.

Tag - Probably a little over priced for what they are, but you get the name to go with it. I have come close to pulling the trigger a few times, but could not bring myself to do it.

Two others that I would recommend that you look at, are Citizen and Bulova. I have had a Citizen dive watch and liked it. I have never had a Bulova, but I will go out on a limb and say that I think that some of their precisionist line looks nice and if their quality backs it, it could be a decent watch.

Whatever you choose, look around and you should be able to get a deal.

Invicta are junk. The watch community hates them worse than Hitler hated Jews.

In that price range, I would definitely look at Hamilton.

The best watch brand for the money, IMO.

$1200 isn't a very high budget, so you will be limited.

I suggest put the $1200 away and continue saving. You can beat the shit out of a Rolex Sub and it will keep on keeping on.

A pre-loved Sub can be had for $3k or so.

Shoot me a text, Matt. Let me know what all you find, and I'll try help you find the best prices.

My dad carries these.

They are designed by a gut who went to KSU!

http://www.benaruswatches.com/

I have one and love it!

I have a few Invictas, my daily is a CYMA.

The Benarus is much nicer than any Invictas.

I got an Lum-Tec M Chronograph that I may be willing to let go of if your interested. I will have to check the model when I get home (it is the the PVD black with Orange lum). I don't wear it very often, and have never worn the metal or rubber straps, only the leather. I bought it with the intention of getting a vintage baseball glove strap from BJ Straps, and never got around to ordering it.
