Default Tax Returns

Have you guys filed your tax returns? If so who did you use and have you received your refunds yet?

I filed mine like normal with Taxact on February 17th... they were accepted right away as normal. The state refund was deposited in my account last friday.

When I go the IRS website for my federal it shows zero new movement has occurred since it was accepted.

It says the returns should take 21 days and be deposited in your account and I am at 13 days and was surprised that the state randomly deposited so quickly.

Filed mine using TurboTax on or around Jan 23. Had both my refunds by the 1st week of Feb.

Have it prepared. Not filing until April since I'm going to owe a little bit.

Owe Federal, get a return from the state. How does that even happen?

My guess is on your state you didn't complete you non-resident state first. That usually results in owing both your resident and non-resident state money.

This is how it went for me too. It used to be so easy I could do it online. But now we have a house and my wife has had a couple part time jobs and I changed jobs, I don't even wanna mess with it.

Yes, ALWAYS enter your non-resident state information first.

I'm in the same boat. First year I actually had a net negative tax season. Feelsbadbro

Time to adjust my 2017 tax filing stuff.

Wow, just checked my bank account... I filed my taxes 2 days ago, my state return has already been processed and put in my account.

I used CreditKarma's (totally!) free tax filing portal. Definitely recommend it.

Is it totally free for basic returns only?

I am not sure. I am basic, so I don't know how much you can add into the free stuff.

I meant free as in it will let you efile and shit for free, too. TurboTax is all "oh ya, super free!" until you get into it and it's like "ya, actually you have to pay $30 to efile"

Taxact was free until you needed to add that.

I filed stock sales with CreditKarma, and it was included in for free.

agreed, tax act was free as well until the added investment income/loss was put in the system.

I have filed with turbo tax since 2008, and this is the first year I said fuck it and checked out another service, Credit Karma. More than doubled my return. I don't know if that's a good thing or bad, but I sent it in with them tonight.
