Chevrolet's latest C7 Corvette trailer focuses on fixing an old ail: the interior

Critics have long taken delight in bashing the Chevrolet Corvette for the sports car's sub-par cabin execution, but the latest teaser for the C7 seems to indicate the next generation machine will bow with much nicer materials. The quick teaser video below shows workers whipping around massive swaths of leather, stitching hides together with contrasting thread and plenty of carbon fiber trim. This is all excellent news. The latest teaser joins a spate of videos showing snippets of the upcoming halo car from General Motors.

We've already seen what it took to bring the car from concept to reality and what the vehicle's gauges will look like, but we'll have to wait a bit longer to get our eyes on the finished product. The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette is set to receive its world debut on January 13 at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. Stay tuned. In the interim, check out the latest teaser video below below.

An Illustrated Look At The 2014 Corvette Straight From Chevy

The 2014 Corvette has been leaking out in dribs and drabs for nearly a year now.

We've seen camoed cars, renderings of the real thing, and driven it online, but nothing has been super official from Chevy. Until now.

Car spy photographer Chris Doane just posted this image on his Facebook page, which appears to be an official dealer service manual for the brake cooling system on the 2014 Vette.

It definitely has the larger headlamps, a pronounced hoodscoop, and a large sidescoop as we expected. This also gives a closeup look at the suspension, something we haven't taken a peek at before.

Doane is also the person that leaked the image that ended up being the Jaguar F-Type, so we're pretty certain this is the real thing.

Our Latest 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Renderings: The Anticipation Is Killing Us

We're just a few weeks away from the seventh-gen Vette's debut. Here's what you can expect.

What It Is: The seventh-generation Chevy Corvette—a.k.a. the C7—shown in our latest batch of exclusive renderings. These offer a slightly different take than do those that appear in our January issue, which is on newsstands now.
Why It Matters: Performance benchmark, affordable supercar, everyday track monster, sex symbol, halo, or proof that Chevy can build a world-beater—whatever your reason, the Corvette is everything GM can do well, done well. Full-size pickup trucks and family sedans pay the bills at General Motors; the Corvette is the pride and joy.
Platform: Like its predecessor, the C7 Corvette gets its own front-engine, rear-wheel-drive platform. (Sorry, fans of mid-engine designs; that plan is filed next to the California bullet train and abolition of the Electoral College under “For Utopian Discussion Only.” Or until at least the C8.) Like the outgoing Z06 and ZR1, the hydroformed main members of even the entry-level car are now aluminum. Carbon fiber is used liberally throughout the base Vett, and Michelin will supply all the rubber.
Anyone who has cursed the cheap, floppy seats and cheap, floppy switchgear in the current Corvette knows GM needed to make a quantum leap with the C7’s interior. We believe that’s possible, judging by the scuttlebutt within the company; if nothing else, the new car’s cabin will no longer be an embarrassment. We’ve seen Recaros—or Recaro-style chairs—in spy pics, and recent teasers from the company show a modern gauge display.

Powertrains: Chevy already has revealed the C7 Vette’s 450-plus-hp base V-8, an engine which we've detailed in all its glory. Now called the LT1, the 6.2-liter engine retains the previous iteration’s bore and stroke, but now adds direct injection. Yep, GM is marrying a pushrod eight with GDI; take that, technologists. Torque will top 450 lb-ft.
The Vette’s manual transmission now will feature seven forward gears, as does that in the latest Porsche 911. Although GM has been working on an eight-speed automatic transmission, work isn’t done yet, so a major supplier (Aisin) is producing an eight-speed ’box for the Corvette in the meantime.
Will there be variants later? Are bears Catholic? (We may have jumbled that one.) Bet on a new Z06, as well as a reprise of the astonishing ZR1.
Competition: BMW M3/M4, Dodge Viper, Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, Porsche Cayman S and 911.
Estimated Arrival and Price: The C7 Corvette’s debut is set for—where else?—the Detroit auto show on January 13, 2013, and sales will begin later in the year. You can expect a sticker price starting at around $55,000, although many dealers will no doubt try charging premiums for early stock. View Photo Gallery
This is looking better, but the butt needs a kick in the butt.

I would loooove to see what the new Z06 would bring. Probably a 550-600hp, 3,000 lb would be nice...yum.

After all the years of complaints about the interior, it excites me to see GM actually confident about what they're putting inside the C7. It's gotta be good.

2014 corvette

This Is The 2014 Corvette’s Rear End, Engine Bay And Interior

Patrick George

Looks like we've got an early Christmas present for all you Corvette aficionados out there. Even more images have surfaced tonight on Corvette Forum that appear to depict the upcoming C7 Corvette's rear end, engine bay and interior.
The images were posted to Corvette Forum by a user who said he's been sent information over several months "by a variety of people," and he won't answer questions as to where they came from.
But many of these renderings appear to be in line with what we've shown you so far of the upcoming 'Vette, so they look to be pretty legit.
We should find out how right they are next month, as the new Corvette is expected to debut at the Detroit Auto Show. In the meantime, tell us what you think of these latest images.

Default 2014 Corvette info out

Don't know if this has been posted yet... this is the sexiest vette concept of all time IMO.

http://www.caranddriver.com/features...enderings-news

Quote:
The Vatican elects a new pope about once every 10 years. Coincidentally, or not, reborn Corvettes follow the same cadence. Speculation about the next high priest of the Milford proving ground has consumed the faithful for the past few years, only intensifying in the lead-up to the car’s official reveal at this year’s North American International Auto Show. Now, weeks before the silk comes off, we have sleuthed out all the important secrets of the seventh-generation Corvette, a.k.a. C7.

Chief engineer Tadge Juechter and his team spent 2007 developing a radical mid-engined Corvette. Alas, their undisclosed discoveries, GM’s bankruptcy, the melting of the polar ice cap, and other negative vibes have again moved that revolution far into the future. So C7 is an evolution of the C6 design, albeit a comprehensive one. In keeping with tradition dating to 1955, a front-mounted pushrod V-8 will power this sports car. But fret not, Vette brethren: the C7 news that follows is good enough to induce cold sweats in Zuffenhausen.

ADVANCED MATERIALS
To meet an ambitious 3000-pound weight target, C7 is constructed like an aircraft. The three-rail space frame GM patented for C5 continues with major improvements. The hydroformed-aluminum main members developed for Z06 and ZR1 are now standard across all C7s, an upgrade enabled by transferring frame manufacturing from an outside supplier to the Corvette’s Bowling Green assembly plant. Carbon-fiber (CF) floor and bulkhead panels adhesively bonded between the central backbone and the perimeter rails augment structural stiffness. We also expect CF to replace all the sheet-molded fiberglass exterior panels. A single-piece lift-off roof—a Corvette feature since 1984—remains standard on the coupe.

Chevy’s not-so-subtle hint confirming the move to CF came with last fall’s presentation of the new crossed-flag emblem on a black woven-cloth backdrop. CF has trickled down to the sub-$60,000 price range thanks to streamlined manufacturing processes implemented by supplier Plasan Carbon Composites that have reduced costs by 60 percent. Also, minor visual flaws are not an issue for the structural panels that live on the Corvette’s dark side, further trimming cost.

Die-cast magnesium crossmembers provide rigid attachment points for the power*train, suspension, steering column, and instrument panel. Nearly all driveline and suspension pieces are aluminum castings or forgings, as before. Likewise, the fiberglass-reinforced plastic leaf springs in use under Corvettes for three decades carry on. Electrically assisted rack-and-pinion steering is standard while special features such as *magnetorheological dampers and Brembo carbon-ceramic brake rotors are reserved for upper-echelon Z06 and ZR1 models due in a couple of years.

I'm sticking with the C6 as the Vette I'll someday own... I don't like this evolution as a whole.

It's just like the jump from 2012 Mustang to 2013 Mustang. The 2012 was a tight design, tight as in not a lot of BS. It was simple, really streamlined the 2005-2009 design, and looked good from all angles... it really was an American M3 in that it had some elegance to the design.

Then the 2013 hits and it's lets go back to the 1999 playbook and add fake plastic vents!!!!!! Whoo Hoo! The only good change is the new headlight design.

The new Vette needed more Ferrari and less Camaro...

Agreed. From the front and the side I like it, but that ass end is just terrible in my opinion. Hopefully it gets toned down in the final product, because I feel it's just too much.
