Fiat’s Compact architecture to underpin 700,000 Chrysler vehicles in the U.S.

Fiat SpA’s new Compact vehicle architecture, which will debut on the new Alfa Romeo Giulietta hatchback, is scheduled to underpin 700,000 Chrysler group vehicles a year in the United States and 300,000 in Europe by 2014. Fiat and Chrysler are currently working on a widened version of the architecture, known as Compact Wide, which will underpin at least seven new models for the Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep brands.
According to Automotive News, the first Chrysler Group vehicles to get the Compact Wide architecture will replace the PT Cruiser and the Dodge Caliber in 2012.
“In developing the Compact architecture, we looked for best-in-class performances in terms of handling and steering response, weight-to-power ratio; noise, vibration and harshness, active and passive safety,” said Stefano Re Fiorentin, Fiat’s head of advanced engineering.
Sergio Marchionne plans for the combined Compact/Compact Wide architecture volume to exceed 1 million units annually within four years.

That'll Fix It: Chrysler may drop Sebring name at next refresh

New products seem to be a scarce commodity at Chrysler, but a recent raft of reports emanating from Auburn Hills and, perhaps more importantly Turin, Italy, shows that storm clouds are gathering near The Pentastar's new product desert.

Chrysler brass recently gave members of the Economic Club of Chicago luncheon a sneak peak at the new Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger, along with information about the arrival of the Fiat 500 by the end of 2010. Now the Detroit Free Press reports that Fiat/Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne is talking major refresh for the Dodge Avenger and the Chrysler Sebring by the end of the year. And that's not all.
The Freep quotes Chrysler's multi-tasking CEO as saying that the Avenger/Sebring architecture has been torn apart and "You'll see a completely different animal. We're having a discussion about what name this animal should have. The jury is still out." The report goes on to say that it will be the Sebring that receives the name change, which makes sense considering the fact that Avenger sales have held up considerably (and relatively) better than the Sebring since both vehicles launched. Chrysler claims that the goal is to make changes where midsize customers will notice.

Stephanie Brinley at AutoPacific Group in Troy reportedly told the Free Press that Chrysler is somewhat limited in what it can accomplish with a refresh, but changes to ride and handling could be significant – and there's plenty of room for improvement. Another positive change could come under the hood of both vehicles, as Chrysler is working with Fiat on new engine technology, including the Italian automaker's Multiair tech, which may or may not find its way into the downtrodden sedans.

We have no idea if changing the name of the Sebring will wash away all the pain inflicted by a truly bad sedan, but we're thinking that at this point no changes could hurt more than the status quo. We're hoping the refresh is thorough enough to get us interested in The Pentastar's midsize offerings, but we're going to have to take a Missouri-style "show me" stance before believing it.

Chrysler purchases plant from its old self

Chrysler Group has a reached a deal with the shell company that holds its former assets whereby the former is to buy a Michigan assembly plant for $20 million. The purchase will keep the plant under Chrysler control, and reverse a controversial decision that would have closed the plant, much to the chagrin of the UAW. The purchase also means the saving of 1,200 jobs.
The company has announced its plan to produce upgraded versions of the Sebring and Avenger at the plant through 2012, as part of the plan by Chrysler to revitalize their mid-size sedan lineup, which is seen as key for a return to profitability. According to a filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Old Carco LLC and Chrysler have been negotiating the deal since the unveiling if Chrysler’s five-year business plan back in November.
The Sterling Heights City Council also approved tax incentives to ease the retention of the plant by Chrysler. The sale is still subject to court approval however, and a hearing has been requested on March 11 to consider the matter.

Fiat's Itty-Bitty Two-Cylinder Twin-Air Engine: First Look

Fiat will introduce the 500's next-generation micro-engines, dubbed "TWIN-AIR," at next month's Geneva Motor Show. The two-banger's got two 900cc variants with electro-hydraulic variable valve timing in either naturally-aspirated or turbocharged flavors. Power ranges from 64HP to a whopping 104HP.

Abarth 500C and Punto Evo are pocket rockets we'd welcome

Fiat's plucky Abarth performance division manages to do a whole lot with very little. The in-house tuning garage has based their entire lineup on two Fiat hatchbacks: the Punto and the 500. So when Fiat rolled out new versions of both, it was only a matter of time until Abarth got their hands on them, and both are slated to make their debut at the fast-approaching Geneva Motor Show.

First up is the 500C. The pseudo-convertible version of the popular (and soon to be U.S.-bound) retro mini, the 500C features a retractable roof section sliding between solid roof rails. The base Fiat version is doubtlessly a fun ride, but doesn't look much like a performance driving tool. Abarth, however, seems to have done a lot to rectify that shortcoming. First, the goods: a 140-horsepower 1.4-liter turbo four mated to a five-speed robotized manual, complete with paddleshifters, drive the hot open hatch to 62 miles-per-hour in 7.9 seconds. Complementing the added oomph are bigger wheels and brakes, a sportier suspension, an aggressive body kit and a two-tone paint scheme that, to our eyes, does the shape some big favors in the attitude department.

The second model starts with the new Punto Evo – a recently revised version of Fiat's bread-and-butter hatchback – and gives it a shot of adrenaline, courtesy of a 165-hp 1.4-liter turbocharged MultiAir four. A 178-hp Esse-Esse version of the Abarth Punto Evo will be available from launch as well, but buyers looking for the added boost in retro-cabrio form will presumably have to wait a little longer for the Abarth 500C Esse-Esse to come along

Hey, Look, Chrysler Will Be Building Some New Cars, Trucks. Who Knew?

A leaked document obtained by the Mopar-loving forumites at Allpar provides purported production dates and details for every new Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram product including the Ram Hybrid, a possible Sebring name change and info on the Fiat 500.

There's a lot to digest here so we'll just summarize. The first truly "new" Chrysler vehicle is the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which begins production on May 10th of this year followed by the 2011 Ram 1500/2500 and refreshes of the Caliber, Dakota, Liberty and Nitro in July. Jeep also gets its series of significant updates on the 2011 Wrangler and Patriot in August and October.

The next big product is the 2011 Dodge CUV, starting production in November. We suspect this the unibody Dodge Durango we keep hearing about, possibly called the 2012 Dodge Magnum. Hybrids roll out for the Journey and Ram 1500 in the same month.

And what of the awful Dodge Avenger/Chrysler Sebring? The replacement rolls of the lines on November 18th and it looks like the Sebring will shed its oft maligned name for the auto show-tested Chrysler 200C moniker. November 22nd is just "Minivans" and we're thinking this is just another big refresh.

Everyone is waiting for the 2012 Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300 and Challenger LX platforms and they've all been moved to a start date in November 30th. Finally, the 2011 Compass and 2012 Fiat 500 hit plants on the same day in December 13th. Does this imply a connection? We may be confusing doubt and hope here but no, there is no connection. This does imply Ralph Giles knew what he was saying when he said the Fiat 500 on sale this year albeit just barely.

What does all this mean? After weakly trying to survive with cheesy special editions they're going to shove everything down the pipe and hope what comes out is profitability.

Pict of 200C:

Quote:
The folks at AllPar seem to have gotten hold of a list of production dates for all Chrysler products this year, including everything from a revised Chrysler 300 to the Fiat 500. The AllPar team is also claiming to have some pretty big news on future Chrysler engines, including the elimination of the HEMI 6.1-liter V8 (in favor of a 6.4) and new versions of the Pentastar V6. Plus, the 200C (pictured above) has also reportedly been approved for production – but with a gasoline engine.
The first model set to hit production is the Viper, followed by the Ram Chassis Cab models and then the 2011 Grand Cherokee in May. In November, production for a significantly revised Avenger and renamed Sebring will begin, as well as new Dodge/Chrysler minivans and full-sized models (Charger, Challenger, 300) followed in December by the North American production of the Fiat 500.
As for future engines, the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 that will debut in the Grand Cherokee is reportedly also designed for Fiat’s MultiAir variable valve timing, direct-injection and turbocharging, although none of those technologies will be on the engine when it launches. Both 3.0-liter and 3.3-liter turbo and twin-turbo versions are likely, but probably only for pricey European vehicles.
Chrysler’s 4-cylinder World Engine will get MultiAir technology, as well as direct injection and turbocharging for some versions. The 4.7-liter V8 will be dropped, as will the 6.1-liter HEMI V8 in favor of a more efficient 6.4-liter HEMI V8 with cylinder deactivation and MultiAir.
As for hybrids, a Ram 1500 Hybrid will make it to market soon, followed by an electric commercial vehicle based on a Fiat van.
As for the Fiat 500, it will be offered with one of two engines, a 1.4-liter I-4 FIRE with Multiair, which makes 100-hp at 6,500 rpm and 95 ft-lbs of torque at 4,250 rpm, as well as a 1.4-liter I-4 FIRE Turbo with Multiair that delivers 170-hp at 6,750 rpm and 170 ft-lbs of torque at 3000 rpm.
All these changes are part of a larger Fiat/Chrysler plan to not only make its models more efficient (by 25 percent by 2014) but to also make them more attractive to consumers. We’re eager to see what sort of additional updates Chrysler’s lineup gets and if a few tweaks and name changes can help the struggling brand.

Spy Shots: Next-gen Dodge Charger interior gets outed

There've been no shortage of spy shots to be had showing the upcoming next-gen Dodge Charger, but to date we've yet to see the interior fully revealed. Our spy photogs have remedied this by finally capturing the big rear-wheel-drive sedan's inner domicile. What's plainly obvious is that Dodge designers have added some swoop to the Charger's angular interior. Note the silvery dashboard piece that acts as a backdrop for the cluster gauge, driver and center air vents and the rather large navigation screen. This particular interior is two-tone with what appears to be light-colored leather seats and door inserts, with black plastic (soft touch, we're hoping) everywhere else and some nickel-colored trim thrown in. There's also a new three-spoke multifunction steering wheel and information display between the tach and speedo.

All in all, we see a big improvement over the current car's aged interior, but a final verdict will have to wait until we can get our grubby paws all over it. We've also got some new spy shots of the exterior that don't reveal much more than what we've seen before except a naked C-pillar.

Report: U.S. market Fiat 500 to get upgraded platform

We're all very excited that the cute little Fiat 500 will be making its way Stateside next year, and if new reports are to be believed, it turns out that the U.S.-spec 500 will actually be better than the one already on sale in Europe. Inside Line reports that when the Americanized 500 starts production in Mexico this December, it will be built on the automaker's new baby car A platform, which will also underpin the 2011 Fiat Panda and Lancia Ypsilon.

So, how is this an improvement? The new platform will provide improved crash protection (meeting the strict U.S. standards), along with reductions in noise, vibration and harshness over the current 500. Other markets will not get this update, however, because the cost of switching platforms simply isn't feasible for a car that isn't receiving a complete overhaul (sorry, Europe).

Additionally, Fiat is still deciding what the official name of the U.S.-spec 500 will be when it goes on sale next year. The obvious decision is to leave the numeric 500 name in place, though the automaker is considering using the Italian spelling, Cinquecento, instead. Honestly, we don't care what they call it – we're just glad the little guy is coming our way soon.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta to get 235-hp high-performance version

There is no doubt that Fiat SpA is planning a major overhaul of its Alfa Romeo brand, which is currently being led by the hot new Alfa Romeo Giulietta. According to a report by AutoCar, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta will be getting a performance version very soon.
It is unclear whether the high-performance Giulietta will be badged GTA or Cloverleaf, but it will be front-wheel-drive and will use the new 1750 TBi turbocharged gasoline engine with Multiair. The car was previewed at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show with the 235-hp engine and Cloverleaf cosmetic upgrades.
The model will use Alfa’s Q2 electronic differential and will also come with active dampers and Fiat’s new dual-clutch gearbox.
As for the Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA, production for the 240-hp hot-hatch looks unlikely. Basically Fiat is thinking that during the economic downturn, the current 168-hp Cloverleaf MiTo should be enough to satisfy high-performance needs.
We’re just hoping that Fiat brings the Giulietta and the MiTo to the United States.

Chrysler kicks off production of Pentastar V6 engine, formerly known as "Phoenix"

The artist engine formerly known as Prince Phoenix has officially hit the assembly lines at the Chrysler Group's plant in Trenton, Michigan. The first version of the mill, which now bears the Pentastar moniker, displaces 3.6 liters and will see its first production application in the engine bay of the brand new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Expect this all aluminum, 60-degree, dual-overhead cam (with variable valve timing) powerplant to see lots of use in the near-term future – Chrysler boasts that the Pentastar V6 will replace seven current V6 engines. In the new Grand Cherokee, the Pentastar will put out 280 horsepower (a 22-percent increase) at 6,400 rpm and 260 pound-feet of torque (an 11-percent improvement) at 4,800 rpm.

Just as importantly, Chrysler tells us that the new engine will be 11 percent more fuel efficient than the unit it replaces, and it will run on either regular 87-octane gasoline or E85. This family of engines represent a $730 million investment, and the 822,000-square-foot Trenton facility will be able to produce more than 400,000 engines per year. See the complete press release after the break.

All-new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 to replace seven current V-6 engines, resulting in flexibility, efficient operations and significant cost savings to the company
Michigan becomes center of Chrysler Group's powertrain offensive
Nearly $1 billion in powertrain investments in Michigan since 2007

Auburn Hills, Mich., Mar 19, 2010 - With Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm and other local officials in attendance, Chrysler Group LLC celebrated the launch of its all-new Pentastar V-6 engine at an event today at the Trenton (Mich.) South Engine Plant (TSEP).

In addition to the Governor, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano, Trenton Mayor Gerald Brown, UAW Chrysler Department Assistant Director Tim Bressler and other local officials joined Chrysler Group executives and Trenton South employees in recognizing the importance of the plant and the new engine in the future success of the Company.

"The Pentastar engine is a cornerstone of Chrysler's efforts to re-invent its business model with strong, brand-focused, world-class quality products," said Scott Garberding, Head of Manufacturing, Chrysler Group LLC. "The new Trenton South plant demonstrates the Chrysler Group's commitment to supporting economic development in Michigan. It also acknowledges the support of the International UAW and our outstanding workforce for helping us create an engine plant that can compete with the best in the world. Their efforts will help establish Trenton South as a premier manufacturer of fuel-efficient engines in support of the Company's future growth."

Chrysler Group's all-new flex-fuel Pentastar V-6 is the most advanced V-6 engine in the company's history. This new line of V-6 engines will contribute to an overall fuel-efficiency improvement of more than 25 percent across the Chrysler, Ram Truck, Jeep® and Dodge product lineup. More refined and fuel-efficient, the Pentastar engine will ultimately replace seven current Chrysler Group V-6 engines and utilize advanced technologies from the Fiat alliance such as Multiair, direct-injection and turbocharging.

The first application of this engine will be in the all-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, due out in the second quarter this year.

The start of production at Trenton South represents one piece of the Chrysler Group's revamped powertrain strategy. In December 2009, the Company announced that it would invest $179 million in its Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance (GEMA) plant in Dundee, Mich., to produce the 1.4-liter, 16-valve Fully Integrated Robotized Engine (FIRE). Together, these two plants - with a combined investment of nearly $1 billion - position Michigan at the center of Chrysler Group's powertrain offensive.

"With the start of production here in Trenton and the recently announced investment in Dundee, Chrysler Group has helped affirm Michigan's position as the world's leader in automotive innovation and excellence," said Gov. Granholm. "These projects further demonstrate that Michigan has the competitive business climate, infrastructure and talented workforce to compete in the global marketplace."

Chrysler Group announced a $730 million investment in the Pentastar program when it broke ground on the all-new 822,000-square-foot facility in May 2007. The plant will have an annual manufacturing capacity of more than 400,000 engines.

"Three years ago, Chrysler Group demonstrated its confidence in its workforce by investing in its powertrain operations," said the UAW's Bressler. "Today, the UAW members at Trenton are excited to participate in building the next generation of high quality, fuel-efficient engines for Chrysler's great lineup of vehicles and thereby, ensuring the Company's future success."

Chrysler developing all-electric Fiat 500EV for U.S. market

We knew Chrysler was up to something when it showed off an all-electric Fiat 500 at this year's Detroit Auto Show. Today, the automaker has officially announced that it will engineer and produce the Fiat 500EV for the United States, starting in 2012.

As of this writing, details about the 500EV are slim. We do know that the powerplant will be comprised of three main systems – an advanced lithium-ion battery, high-power electric powertrain module and an EV control unit to manage overall power flow. The 500EV will be developed and engineered at Chrysler's headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

In more Chrysler EV news, the automaker will be receiving up to $48 million from the U.S. Department of Energy to build a total of 140 Ram plug-in hybrids. Originally, the automaker had plans to bring a Ram hybrid to market, but due to the slow-selling nature of other gasoline-electric pickups, Chrysler's plans were canned. This new round of electrified trucks will be used in a three-year demonstration project that will aid in expediting the development of vehicle electrification technology. No word on if we'll see a production version of the Ram PHEV anytime soon, however. In the meantime, buyers hoping for a high-mpg Ram can look forward to a light-duty diesel option currently being considered. Hit the jump to read the full details in Chrysler's press release.

Chrysler Group LLC to Develop New Fiat 500 Electric Vehicle for the United States

- New Fiat 500EV demonstrates benefits of Chrysler Group and Fiat Group alliance
- Zero-emission Fiat 500EV provides an environmentally friendly, clean, quiet driving experience freeing customers from escalating fuel costs and costly oil changes
- Department of Energy provides up to $48 million grant toward test fleet of 140 Ram Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles
- PHEV technology to improve fuel economy up to 65 percent with up to 20 mile electric-only driving range

Auburn Hills, Mich., Mar 22, 2010 -

Chrysler Group LLC today announced its plans to engineer and produce a pure electric vehicle using the Fiat 500 platform. Shown earlier this year at the 2010 North American International Auto Show, the Fiat 500EV demonstrates the immediate benefits of the alliance between Chrysler Group and the Fiat Group as well as the speed at which the two companies can work together on advanced vehicle programs.

"The alliance with Fiat presented new opportunities to merge Chrysler Group engineering knowledge with new platforms and the Fiat 500EV is an outstanding example of our efforts," said Scott Kunselman, Senior Vice President Engineering-Chrysler Group LLC. "The Fiat 500 is a small, lightweight platform perfect for integrating electric-vehicle technology."

The Fiat 500EV powertrain is comprised of three main systems; high power electric powertrain module, advance lithium ion battery, and an EV control unit to manage power flows. Beginning in 2012, Chrysler Group will manufacture the Fiat 500EV for the United States market. All powertrain engineering and vehicle development will take place at Chrysler Group headquarters in Auburn Hills, Mich. Pricing will be announced closer to launch, but will be competitive with similar electric vehicles in the market.

Chrysler Group is the vehicle electrification center of competence for both Chrysler Group and Fiat Group. The company is exploring ways to promote zero-emission transportation and the development of an electric-vehicle charging infrastructure through partnerships to be announced in the future.

Last year Chrysler Group announced the company's intention to build the Fiat 500 with a combustion engine for North America. The vehicle will debut in late 2010.

Ram Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)

Chrysler Group has been selected for a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) grant of up to $48 million as part of a $2.4 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act DOE Vehicle Electrification program. Chrysler Group is planning to build a total of 140 Ram PHEVs for a three-year demonstration project that includes various geographic and climatic locations across the United States.

"This initiative represents how government, automotive industry, suppliers and key partners are reaching common goals and demonstrates how rapidly this type of advanced technology can be brought to market," said Paolo Ferrero, Senior Vice President-Powertrain, Chrysler Group LLC. "DOE-support for domestic advanced technology is an important enabler for Chrysler Group and its key suppliers in order to understand and test customer acceptance and the capability of PHEV systems in a variety of real-world conditions."

The Ram PHEV features Chrysler Group's 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 with a two mode hybrid transmission and a 12KwHr lithium ion battery. The vehicle is capable of up to 20 miles of zero-emission, pure-electric range without the need for gasoline. An overall fuel economy improvement more than 65 percent is expected for average drive cycles. Chrysler Group has partnered with Electrovaya Inc. to supply the advanced lithium Ion batteries for the Ram PHEV test fleet.

The DOE grant will expedite the development of vehicle-electrification technology. More than 21 Chrysler Group partners across the U.S., including utility companies, government agencies and Universities will independently test the Ram PHEV and provide valuable data for the advancement of the technology.

In 2008, Chrysler Group announced the company's intention to bring a Ram Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) to market. After closely evaluating the response to hybrid pickups in the marketplace, the company could not formulate an appropriate business case and has decided to cancel development work on the 2011 Ram HEV.

Chrysler Group's alliance with Fiat Group brings new platforms and technologies that allow the company to create an improved long-term product strategy with greater fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. Chrysler Group's five-year plan has an uncompromising product schedule, including a progressive vehicle electrification strategy.

Fiat to take over Chrysler sales and service across Europe

tarting next month, Fiat SpA will start taking over sales and service for Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge brand vehicles in 11 European countries in a process that will begin in Italy and take a total of two years to complete. Fiat will slowly replace Chrysler’s former partner, Daimler AG, in providing support services for Chrysler vehicles.
The company’s financial arm has already replaced Daimler in providing financial services for Chryslers in Europe.
Within the next 18 months, activities and employees of the Chrysler’s national sales companies across Europe will be transferred to Fiat’s national sales companies.
“About 400 Chrysler European employees will move over time to Fiat,” a Chrysler spokesman told Automotive News Europe.
Fiat will eventually become the sole distributor of Chrysler brands in Europe. It will announce plans to integrate Chrysler’s European dealers to its own distribution network on April 21.

Fiat to cut 5,000 workers, four models from production

According to a breaking news report from a local Italian newspaper, as part of its 2010-2014 business plan, Fiat will cut 15 percent of its production work force and eliminate four of its 12 models from production this year. Fiat will simultaneously plan on increasing production in Italy by 50 percent to 900,000 cars for 2010.
According to La Republica newspaper, the 15 percent cut in assembly line workers will result in roughly 2,000-2,500 workers being fired from the Mirafiori plant in Turin and roughly 1,500 workers at the Termini Imerese plant in Sicily.
Although the cuts will certainly provide Fiat with harsh criticism from government officials, unions and locals – the cuts should come as no surprise as Fiat warned that Italy could lose as many as 60,000 automotive sector jobs in 2009.
An Associated Press analysis of the La Republica report also pointed out that Fiat plans to produce a total of seven models under the Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo brands in the U.S., resulting in 350,000 models annually. Fiat acquired a 20 percent stake and a controlling interest in Chrysler Group LLC in June 2009 as part of Chrysler’s bankruptcy restructuring plans.
Fiat’s comprehensive 2010-2014 strategic plan is set to be unveiled on April 21.

Fiat to increase its stake in Chrysler to 35 percent

Sergio Marchionne has announced plans for Fiat to increase its stake in Chrysler over the next two years to 35%. The first purchase, expected to happen this year, will increase the stake by 5%, and the two subsequent purchases will depend on the company’s distribution outside the United States. “In the next 24 months maximum we must arrive at 35 percent of Chrysler,” Marchionne said.
Marchionne also defended Fiat’s decision to invest abroad; a move that has caught the criticism of many. Aside from Chrysler, Fiat has invested in companies in China and Russia in order to survive the shrinking global market. Many are concerned that Fiat’s real plan is to direct manufacturing away from Italy.
Fiat plans to present its five-year plan on April 21, but rumors are abound right now that claim the loss of 5,000 jobs at Fiat; a claim that Marchionne vehemently denies. In fact, Fiat plans to increase production another 250,000 units per year in three years. He also defended the closing of the Sicilian plant, pointing out that logistics make it a financially unsound operation.

Marchionne: 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee will be delayed if it isn’t flawless

Speaking today at his keynote speech to the Automotive Forum 2010 in New York, Chrysler/Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne said that he will delay the launch of Chrysler’s redesigned 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee if he doesn’t think the vehicle’s quality is flawless.
The 2011 Jeep Gran Cherokee is scheduled to go on sale in June or early July.
“It is the signature vehicle” of Fiat-run Chrysler — the first all-new vehicle since Italy’s Fiat took over — and will be seen sign of the quality of all successive Chrysler-Fiat vehicles,” Marchionne said. “The Grand Cherokee “must be flawless’” he said. “It will not be launched (on time) otherwise.”
Chrysler recently kicked off production of its 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine, which will make its debut in the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It has been previously reported that prices for the 2011 Grand Cherokee SUV will start at $31,480 for the base Laredo E model.

Because they've lost ALL of their credibility....

Even police departments cant stand dealing with them, they cant even provide parts for their police interceptors in a timely fashion.

They're a shitty company.... plain & simple.

I think you are missing the point to this whole thread, this isn't Dailmer running the show anymore, this is FIAT (they had zero to do with the situation) they are actually coming in with a viable 4 year plan that really isn't that bad (some of the stuff is a little wtf) but totally understandable.

What do you expect them to do when a larger co. bought them and made XXX promises and basically left a brand near death and on the verge of getting shut down by the govt and merged with GM?

I think you need to give Marchionne a chance to see if this gamble can work.

Agreed. The man seems to be working tirelessly toward re-making Chrysler as a respectable and viable company. From what I understand, he's leaving Fiat to head Chrysler?

That is the rumor at this moment, I mean what do people expect 1 person to do with a co that was almost dead? He does spend time from Detroit and Italy (back and forth) it is something he can't do for the rest of his life he isn't that young anymore

Before I moved here, I lived > 2 miles from CWHQ in Auburn Hills. I actually ran into him at Jimmie John's. He loves him some #9 Italian Night Club.
