Default Kia to unveil shooting brake concept for Frankfurt motor show

Kia continues its upward ambition into the premium segment with a shooting brake concept

Kia has part-revealed a new concept due for the Frankfurt motor show, which will preview the look of the upcoming Cee'd hatchback.
The concept takes the form of a shooting brake-style estate, although Kia describes it as an “extended hatch”, with more dramatic styling than the cooking Cee'd. The brand also hinted that the concept would preview a potential bodystyle for the C-segment car, which is currently on sale in three and five-door hatch and conventional estate formats only.
The Cee'd range will begin with the five-door hatchback and estate variants, as the bestsellers in the range. These are expected to arrive next year, although it’s unlikely that the three-door Procee'd will be offered.
Should the three-door Procee'd be discontinued, it would make sense that the shooting brake variant would take its name. For the new Picanto, Kia removed the option of three doors, offering it only as a five-door car.
The shooting brake would be another car in new territory for Kia, following the introduction of the Stinger sports saloon, which aims to compete with the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series.
Little of the front of the car is revealed, but rakish light clusters are just visible, as are sharp creases towards the front of the car, suggesting a more aggressive aesthetic to mirror that of the Picanto city car and the Stinger.
The current-generation Cee'd has been around since 2012, so is nearing the end of its life cycle - typically six years for the Korean brand. A facelift in 2015 refreshed the car at the midpoint of this cycle.

Engines are likely to be a mix of new or heavily revised existing units, while Kia’s 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine is expected to move up to the Cee'd from the Picanto and Rio.

Designed at Kia’s Frankfurt studio, not far from that city's motor show location, the concept will be revealed in full on 12 September.

Stunning Kia fastback concept previews next-gen Pro_cee’d compact

Kia has revealed a stunning fastback called the Proceed concept.
Set to debut next week at the 2017 Frankfurt auto show, we’re sad to report the concept doesn’t preview a new model line. Rather, it signals a new body style for one of the Korean brand’s existing models, specifically the next-generation Cee’d compact car.
Its stance and proportions may be new, but the concept features some familiar Kia design cues, such as the brand’s tiger nose grille. Another highlight is the concept's rich Lava Red paint finish. This was created by combining multiple hand-applied layers of black, chrome-effect silver, and red-tinted lacquer.
In a statement, Kia said the concept hints at design elements bound for the new Cee’d which goes on sale in Europe in 2018. The new Cee’d is closely related to Hyundai’s Elantra/i30 and should include familiar hatchback and wagon body styles, and potentially a 5-door fastback as previewed here.
Hyundai’s i30 spawned its own 5-door fastback body style in July. The new Cee’d will likely see its 5-door fastback body style replace the current Cee’d’s 3-door Pro_cee’d option—something the concept’s Proceed name hints at.
“The extended hot hatch styling retains the athleticism of the current Pro_cee’d model, while combining its striking visual presence with a dash of real-world versatility,” Kia said in a statement. “Reworked and re-imagined for a new generation of driver, it puts forward a bold vision for a potential member of the next-generation Cee’d family.”
The Frankfurt auto show starts September 12. For more coverage, head to our dedicated hub.

Kia Proceed Concept is like a tiny Stinger GT

It previews the future European Cee'd lineup

After releasing a teaser recently, Kia has dropped a couple of official photos of its mysterious wagon concept, as well as its official name. It's called the Proceed Concept, and it will set the stage for the next generation of Kia C'eed compact cars, which compete with the Honda Civic, Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf, among others.

What's somewhat unusual about this Proceed Concept is that its name is akin to the current Kia Pro_cee'd (a name that's sure to have every editor pull out a few hairs), which is the two-door hatchback version of the normal Cee'd. This Proceed Concept is very clearly a four-door hatchback, bordering on traditional wagon. Based on what Kia says about the car, they've seen people are more open to alternatives to typical two-door hatches, and thus are considering something different for the future model.

We certainly have no qualms with the body style since not only is it a wagon, which as journalists we're practically required to like, but it's a darn good-looking one, too. The whole car sits extremely low over the wheels, and all of the car's lines appear to be drawn back to a taper, evoking a sense of speed and sleekness at rest. It looks sleeker than the already sharp Stinger GT. Aside from the classically pretty lines, it has another very unusual styling feature. The bright outline of the car's greenhouse is not chrome, nor is it white painted trim. It's actually illuminated with something called Luminline. So even at night, the car's rakish roofline will be visible.

Of course, since this is the concept for a European-only car, we likely won't see the production model in the States. But just in case someone from Kia is reading, we have a suggestion: Just put a Forte badge on it and sell it here. The average person won't know or care, and it saves you from having to develop a separate model for one market. Think about it.

Kia Proceed Concept Is Sensitive To Changing Light Conditions

That doesn’t mean that it needs glasses, or a special treatment, because the Kia Proceed Concept, which is displayed in Frankfurt, features a very complicated paintwork.

It's called Lava Red, and it's the result of a week-long paintshop process that saw the combination of 19 hand-applied layers of black, chrome-effect silver, and red tinted lacquer, for a glossy and lustrous finish.

The special paint, which covers the entire body of the brand's latest show car, is said to enhance its curvaceous body, and to be sensitive to changing light conditions.

"Color and trim played a key role in the development of the car, and our discussions on the look and feel of the Proceed Concept's cabin took place at the same time as our talks on exterior form. The two dovetailed together perfectly, which is not always the case", Chief Designer Europe for Kia, Gregory Guillaume.

Some of the exterior highlights include, besides the 'extended hot hatch' shape, which could become a third member of the next generation Cee'd family, the dynamic lineage, glasshouse that extends to the tailgate complete with illumination, dramatic roofline, slim waistline, muscular rear end, and 20-inch rims, with central locking.

Finished in Lava Red as the rest of the bodywork, the dashboard and steering column provide an interesting contrast in the cabin. The door linings have been covered in glossy hand-painted fabric, the seats are wrapped in more than 100 meters of black elastane fabric, specially molded by hand to create "rippled and ruched upholstery", and there is also visible carbon fiber that runs across its full length.

The Kia Proceed Concept can seat four, in the interlinked seats that feature a contoured welcoming wave. The person behind the wheel can then select between three color-coded driving modes - Lava Red for GT, Forest Green for Eco, and Ghost White, for Autonomous. Yes, the study features autonomous drive, but the automaker has yet to detail it.

Other interesting additions made to the cabin are the aluminum controls, inspired by the haptic, machined actions of top-end audio systems, and the 'Memory Bank', which is "a flush-mounted shelf housed within the dashboard, containing a trio of evocative aromas", Kia says.

“Each of these three engraved flacons contains a scent synonymous with power, passion and performance; aromas that any petrol head will instantly recognize,” says Guillaume. “There’s the warm musky smell of aged leather, the oily fragrance of a garage that’s home to a classic car, and the tang of high-octane motorsport fuel. This is about automotive passion and the love of car culture.”

a shooting brake could become a reality

Kia sees the shooting brake as a potential alternative to crossovers.
Although hidden in a corner and poorly lit, the Kia Proceed concept was one of the sexiest cars on display at this year's Frankfurt Auto Show. The stylish shooting brake might spawn a production model if enough customers demand it.

"For the time being it's a design exercise. It's one of three body styles we're evaluating right now for production, so it's possible this will move beyond the concept stage. We need to feel the pulse of the public as to whether this is something they want," said Artur Martins, Kia's European marketing chief, during a recent interview with CarBuzz.
Martins added shooting brakes could be the ideal alternative to crossovers and SUVs, which are quickly approaching peak banality. It would also allow Kia to stand out, because it would be the first non-premium brand to offer a shooting brake in years. What remains to be see is whether the model would be sold in the United States.
Kia is able to have the shooting brake debate because it will be putting another body style out of its misery in the coming years.

Kia Procee'd Concept Is Slated To Spawn A Stylish Shooting Brake

The Kia Procee'd concept was one of the stars at the Frankfurt Motor Show and a new report is suggesting a production version will arrive late next year.

Little is known about the model but Autocar is reporting it will become part of an expanded Cee’d lineup that will include four different models. Despite this, the three-door variant will reportedly be axed as customers simply aren't interested in that particular model.

The standard model is expected to be unveiled early next year at the Geneva Motor Show and it will likely be introduced alongside a wagon variant. Both are slated to feature an updated interior with higher quality materials and an improved design. Engine options are expected to carryover from today's model but they will likely receive minor performance tweaks.

Later in the year, Kia is expected to introduce a stylish shooting brake and a crossover-inspired model that will reportedly be positioned between the Stonic and Sportage.

A performance-oriented Procee'd GT is also expected in the future but it will reportedly be less extreme than the Hyundai i30 N.

Could The New Kia Ceed Be The Company's First True Hot Hatchback?

Hopefully the US gets its own version of this car.
The 2018 Geneva Motor Show is just a few weeks away, but Kia didn't want to wait until then to give us a taste of what it will be bringing. That is why the company has released the first sketch of the 2018 Ceed hatchback. For those who live in the US, the Ceed runs on the same platform as the Forte, so this new car could end up coming to the US as a new Forte5. This is good news because from what we can tell, the new Ceed should be a fantastic looking hatchback. But will it be the true hot hatchback that Kia needs right now?

8

Based on the sketch, it appears that the new Ceed will draw inspiration from the stunning Proceed Shooting Brake Concept that was shown off at Frankfurt. Kia told AutoExpress that the five-door model will debut alongside "another member" of the Ceed family. This could end up just being the three-door version, but it could end up being a shooting brake like the concept car. Kia also said that the car will drop the controversial apostrophe from its name, so it will now be the Ceed instead of the Cee'd. Like the old model, the new Ceed will ride on the same platform as the Hyundai Veloster. This means that it should rely on the same 2.0-liter normally aspirated and 1.6-liter turbocharged engines.

The bigger question is whether or not the Ceed will get the Veloster N's 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with up to 276 hp. We also wonder if the Ceed will return to the US as the Forte5. Kia has said that the recently revealed Forte would get a sportier version, but we wonder to what extent. The Veloster Turbo's 1.6-liter 201-hp engine would be nice, but we'd love to see a true hot hatchback to join the Stinger in Kia's sporty model range.

Kia Ceed Shooting Brake to debut in Paris

We have confirmed that Kia was working on an all-new third body type for the recently launched new generation Ceed, and that will be a Shooting Brake based on the concept above.

At the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the South Korean automaker unveiled the beautiful Proceed Shooting Brake Concept.
At the beginning was very unclear to know about if the automaker had already designed a production version (and we have forwarded here in one of our reports) and now is AutoWeek who in a recent discussion with Kia’s head of product planning seemed to confirm that the car will reach the production line.

According to David Labrosse, Kia will introduce a third bodystyle of the Ceed at the upcoming Paris Motor Show to slot alongside the hatchback and wagon. Style and practicality to join forces.
Further quizzed about the model, Kia Motors Europe’s former chief operating officer Michael Cole, was asked if the next Ceed variant will be similar to the Hyundai i30 Fastback.

Responding, Cole said the new Ceed will instead be more sporty and practical. It’s hard to deny the fact that the Proceed Shooting Brake Concept looked extremely intriguing. With that in mind, it could easily act as the perfect flagship model in the Ceed range, if put into production the same way.

2019 Kia Ceed Shooting Brake spied for the first time

There is been some debate about which model is this Kia Ceed but our bet is for the Shooting Brake.

This will represent the third body style for the Ceed models, the shooting brake concept model was originally shown back at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
It’s still unclear what could power this shooting brake model but we might see the 1.6L engine as well as the 1.0T-GDI Diesel, but we wouldn’t be surprise to see a GT model with the 1.6L engine reaching the 200 horsepower line.

At first glance, we can tell under the camouflage this shooting brake it’s wearing a body kit, even using the same side skirt from the Ceed GT but missing the red strip at the bottom.
The front of the shooting brake seems to be similar to the hatchback model, we have the tiger nose grill and headlight with the ice cube Day running ligths surrounding the projector. Now the fog light in the other hand, seems to have taken a new design compare to the hatchback.

At the back we are missing the bottom brake light reflector but the most interesting thing is the dual exhaust, this is also found at the GT model but unfortunately they have plastic mesh inside so, at least now, they are just for show.

The Ceed shooting brake should be unveiled at the París Auto show 2018, so stay tuned for more details.
