Build assets for 20 years then sell the company for retirement funds in my early 50s.

We're also starting a couple other businesses so maybe if they work out I can phase out of operating this one so full time so I'd have contact with our customers in a less demanding way on my availability. I'm not the type of person that can really deal with corporate bs so I doubt I ever get away from running our own thing.

Vet, mentor, and delegate. Your work life and personal life will be so much better. Unless something is on fire, people don't bother me when I'm on vacation and I don't bother them.

I will eventually. Hiring someone decent would come directly out of my pay to offset it. If I hired someone willing to travel a bit and take call like that I'd basically be giving up their salary out of mine, so maybe $70k-$80k of income literally just gone.

I've been trying to groom some of our contract tech's on how to trouble shoot a lot of these issues so when I leave on vacation, etc. they could at least maybe take my call for me to help with those times.

Great question and topic. In my opinion Time and Experiences will always be more valuable than Money or Possessions. Of course, with that being said it is better to not have money problems, than to have money problems, so a certain level of maturity, financial goals and financial discipline are important as well no matter how much money you make.

12 years total, it took me a week to get a better job lined up. Doing the background check and drug test on Monday. My last day with the bank is May 4th.

yup, I've been managing my branch for 5 years.

basically I had an agreement with upper management last year, the moved my branch manager to a different location and asked me to keep the branch afloat. I said I would, as it would only be a month or two before they hired someone to replace her. I was to be moved into a non sales roll once the branch was restaffed. That two to three months turned into 8 months of me carrying the weight of the branch on my shoulders alone. They burned me out and then acted like the agreement we had didn't exist, even though I had it on paper. Then they basically doubled down on our sales goals. I just can't take the sales pressure and hours anymore. I realized at that point, the bank was not going to allow me to be the husband and father I want to be and it was time for a change. I'm doing this for the betterment of my family and my own mental health.

Forgive my ignorance, but what kind of sales goals would a manager of a branch have? I really only use my bank for the savings/checking account, so I don't really know what sales goals you would have.

we didn't, but do now.

5 consumer applications a week, 100k a week in loans booked, credit cards, accounts to be opened, our book of business, plus operations, risk, customer service and running the teller line.

They made changes to where the tellers cannot "sale" anymore due to the Wells Fargo shit, so it all got put on us when they said it wouldn't.

Wow, sounds like you gave it a very fair timeline for them to keep their word. What type of work are you going into now?

it really started in Jan, they messed with my schedule. I gave them 3 months to get it corrected. 4 nights a week I was coming home and putting Ridley to bed still in my Tie. April hit, still no changes so I said F it, I'm done.

Sounds alot like Community America. They have some pretty hefty sales goals to get their monthly bonuses.

I'd reckon it comes down to compensation. I'd figure a bank manager would be in the 6 figure range.

that's funny, no one but upper upper management make 6 figures. I made good money, but not enough to deal with the BS. For a company that put up billions in profit, they don't spread it very well in actual cash/income.

Bonus was honestly shit for everything I did here and it took 2 months from the end of the quarter to get paid out.

Congrats on making a move that fits more in line with your family life rather than work life. I did a similar thing at my job and made the decision I wasn't going to work 14-18 hour days on a fairly routine basis. I'm more like 6 to 10 and averaging 40 a week now. Same pay, same responsibility.
I just delegate more and pass on work if I already have enough. I'm more efficient at work and less stressed.

How many hours were you putting in a week?

What's the new line of work (you don't need to name the company of course)?

Call me crazy, but the huge focus on bank sales goals is what got Wells Fargo into major legal trouble. Haven't these banks learned from their mistakes over the past 10 years or so? Sheer greed.

I was working 50 to 55 a week, they moved us to hourly Jan 1st, since then it's been do more work, with less people and less time.

I'm going to VinSolutions to be a lead development Specialists. I start May 8th, they actually gave me a better offer top to bottom than what I have with the bank. Better hours, better pay, better work environment and a company that actually values their employees and doesn't see them as profit generators on an excel spreadsheet.

I can't say much, but wells fargo wasn't the only one to do these things. Eventually skeletons will come out, but I will be long gone by then.

They put us through 3 months of "training" so they could hold us accountable to sales goals since the "training" taught us "proper sales behaviors" terms and wording changed, but the meat behind it all stayed the same. Same practices just a new face for the public.
