I'm betting most of you already own a few thousand $ worth of apple in your retirement accounts.
if you check aapl has a 2-3% weighting on many of your fund options

My retirement is invested fully in my company's stock. Outside of that in my personal accounts I have about 11 shares of Apple but my biggest personal holding is Netflix.

That can lead to very bad places. spread your money around.
It's ok to speculate and hope for growth but I wouldn't put your ENTIRE retirement account into ONE stock.

I agree and I also disagree

Most company stock would probably be a bad bet

Cerner stock historically has only ever really gone up. In the past 5 years it's gone up something crazy like 230%. It has split 6 times and Cerner is only growing bigger and bigger as a company. The DoD Contract proves that they are a big player with a lot of market share.

I invest a lot of money in Cerner stock (Plus cerner employees get a 15% discount and Cerner matches). We would be stupid not to

But I also have separate retirement accounts I invest in, so does my wife

Thanks obamacare. Cerner seems like a good long term investment.

Actually the money to be made on Obamacare is gone. Hospitals aren't getting paid to be electronic as much.

But you can think the gov't for the $4B contract

Cerner closed out 2% up. Lumber Liquidators made me about $800 today. My only stock that didn't do well was BCEI and TSYS stayed even .

Yes it did. We definetelly need a good correction. When you have a good 5-10% drop the yields begin to look really juicy.

I really need to start an account somewhere and start investing. Only have about $5-7K right now to play with, but I feel like everyday I think about what to invest in is a day wasted. I know my 401K at work isn't going to cut it, and don't want to have everything tied into a long term "retirement" account.

What online brokers do you guys use? Or what would you recommend for a beginner? I have been told Scottstrade is good.

I use Fidelity. So does Greg (Scooby).

I like Fidelity a lot. Easy to use website, trading fees are minimal. Overall it's great.

If you have 5-7k to play with I would definitely start small just so you can get the feel of things. That way you kinda know the patterns and what to look for when buying stock

Thanks

I have been reading up on investopedia as well as watching some financial/business teacher that has like 10hrs of lecture on youtube. (Investing for beginners). I have just been to scared to really commit to anything. I'm trying to budget 1K every month from now on to add to my investments as well. That's my goal anyway.

I will open an account with an online broker this weekend and see what I can try and setup for Monday. Thanks again

I use robinhood and it's great. For those with fidelity, does it take long for transfers to clear? When I try to put more money in my account RH takes like 3 days.

The market is all over the place this morning. If you wanted to day trade, you could make some serious cash if done right....
