Yeah it's a dealer that is asking more than new retail on a used 2015 Sport Unlimited with a hardtop/auto on their website right now ($33k), so I can see why certain dealers would get defensive when people mention new ones are $5k less.

I never said Wranglers didn't get more expensive when you add options, isn't that obvious? But I'll bite, what "real actual options" are you referring to? Most Unlimiteds sold are Sports which come standard with AC and when adding a hardtop and auto, are easily obtainable for under $28k. There's a bunch of dealers selling them for $27.X on autotrader right now before any negotiation. Brand new. I agree that I see tons of slightly used JK's for $28-32k, but only a sucker would pay that. If people are paying $30k+ for used Wrangler Sports or ones with salvage titles, its helping make my point that there are false ideas about what Wranglers cost and what they are worth. Like I said before, used Wranglers often sell for more than new MSRP because people have no idea what you can get them for.

The 2018 Jeep Wrangler's Interior Actually Looks Pretty Nice

Hey, shocking news: the all-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler is going to look like... a Jeep Wrangler. Despite being a completely new rock-crawler that makes use of aluminum to cut weight, the Wrangler’s looks won’t change much, because why would it need to? Fortunately, one place that seems to be hugely improved over the old Wrangler is the inside, as these new spy shots show.

The current Wrangler is great at a lot of things. Things like off-roading, having roof and door panels that pop off, and looking real badass at the mall. Interior comfort? Not so much. The Wrangler is meant to be a rugged vehicle, but even its abundance of hard plastics and outdated interface are a bit much.

Now! The 2018 Wrangler looks hella nicer inside. Besides the colored dash panels, which are a classy touch, you have an array of buttons that recall the Challenger and Charger and other Fiat Chrysler products, a huge touch screen infotainment system, far more tasteful window switches (center mounted, still) and what appear to be much nicer materials around.
Overall, it appears to be a more pleasant place to spend time while you’re doing extreme off-roading. There’s no reason the modern Wrangler can’t be tough and still nicer inside than the last one.
Do you spot any interesting details from these photos?

These May Be All The Engines For The 2018 Jeep Wrangler

A rendering of what the 2018 Jeep Wrangler could look like via JL Wrangler Forums
One of the most anticipated vehicles of the year is the next-generation Jeep Wrangler, but a big question mark is what engines it will have. A tip sent to Jalopnik from an anonymous source appears to confirm the full range of motors, including two versions of the planned diesel.
The anonymous tip claimed to show the details on the JL-generation 2018 Jeep Wrangler launch, which would confirm a lot of the rumors we’ve heard over the months if true. The source, who claims to have connections at a Fiat Chrysler Automobiles assembly plant, says that the Wrangler may have six different engine options:
  • Two versions of the 3.6-liter Pentastar engine
  • A 3.0- and a 2.2-liter diesel
  • And two versions of the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.
Spy photos appeared to show a diesel 2018 Wrangler Rubicon out testing in July 2016, so this isn’t a big stretch. The 2018 Wrangler has also been rumored to have a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that makes nearly 300 horsepower for over a year now, but we have not yet heard any horsepower specifics or whether either of the four-cylinder Jeeps will be turbos.
Included in the tip are all of the 2018 Wrangler’s potential different body options:
  • The typical two- and four-door configurations
  • A black soft top
  • A tan soft top
  • A black hard top
  • A body-color hard top
  • And a power-retractable top.
Sadly we have not heard anything new on Wrangler’s transmission options, which has been rumored to come with a manual or not at all. The latest rumor, to make you all feel better, is that it will come with a manual.
Jalopnik has reached out to FCA for comment and for clarification on whether the options from the tip are accurate, and will update when we hear back.
Update, May 16 at 5:38 p.m. ET: A spokesperson for the company responded to Jalopnik’s request for comment, saying that FCA “cannot comment on future product.” We tried.

Jeep Wrangler will get diesel option for 2019

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles held a meeting with select Jeep dealers this week specifically to discuss the JL-series Wrangler.
The folks at JLWranglerForums have managed to source some of the information that was discussed, including powertrain details.
The new off-roader will be introduced in November at the 2017 Los Angeles auto show, and should be at dealerships as early as December. It will arrive as a 2018 model.

There will be two powertrains at launch. The standard option will be a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4, something that was confirmed in 2016. The engine is thought to be packing as much as 300 horsepower, and interestingly it will be available exclusively with an automatic transmission, most likely an 8-speed.
The other powertrain option at launch will be an upgraded version of the current Wrangler’s 3.6-liter V-6. Expect a significant boost to the 285-hp rating in the current Wrangler. Buyers of this powertrain will have the choice of manual or automatic transmissions.
A third option, a diesel, will be introduced for 2019. The unit in question is the 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 diesel that FCA is having some issues with regarding emissions. Wrangler prototypes sporting DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) tanks, used to reduce nitrogen oxides in diesel vehicles, have been spotted.

There’s no word on how much power the diesel engine will offer in the Wrangler, but in the Jeep Grand Cherokee it’s good for 240 hp. It’s also not clear what transmissions will be offered with the diesel engine, though it’s thought that only an automatic will be available.
FCA is known to be working on a hybrid powertrain for the Wrangler, though this was not discussed at the meeting. Also not discussed, it seems, was the planned Wrangler pickup which is expected to be introduced for 2019.
Expect more details to emerge in the lead up to the L.A. auto show which starts November 27.

The often-fruitful JL Wrangler Forums has gotten its hands on what sure look like screenshots of a Jeep dealership’s internal computer system. If they’re real, the images reveal a whole lot about what options and configurations the new-body-style 2018 Jeep Wrangler will be getting.

Jeep Wrangler updates are a big deal because the car is an enthusiast favorite. Actually it’s almost everyone’s favorite, if you believe Jeep-parent company Fiat Chrysler’s sales reports. The Wrangler has been with us in its current iteration since 2012, in its current bodystyle since 2007, yet the company is still selling a whopping 18,000 machines a month.

The Wrangler’s so beloved because its capability and unrefined purity give it earnest personality... something so many cars are lacking in 2017.
Now hardcore Jeep fans are already polishing pitchforks to decry the outgoing (“JK” platform) Wrangler as “the last true Jeep” and the incoming (“JL” platform) vehicle as yuppie poser bullshit, as is tradition. And of course, some of us will come up with excuses to defend that take when the vehicle’s finally revealed at the LA Auto Show in November.

But the reality is, it is most likely that the JL Jeep will be objectively superior to the JK in every practically appreciable respects. One of those, according to this latest leak, is a Selec-Trac Full Time 4WD system.

With the exception of a few weird limited-run trims, Jeep Wranglers have always had 4WD. That functionality has been the centerpiece of the machine’s off-road capability. These vehicles drive in RWD by default, and can only be switched into 4WD manually with a big transfer case lever next to the shifter.
That same lever can also put the vehicle into low-range for huge torque multiplication and crawling abilities.
A full-time system like Jeep’s Selec-Trac would also run in RWD under regular road conditions, but instead of having to be manually jammed into 4WD, the transfer case would distribute power to the wheels with the most traction automatically without an active driver input.

This would effectively make the JL Wrangler easier to drive in bad weather and on rough-terrain, taking one more decision out of the driver’s hands into the charge of the vehicle’s wheel speed sensors and traction control computers.
It would also deprive drivers of the joy of pulling a big beefy transfer case lever.
The JL Wrangler Forums finding indicate that this automatic transfer case would be a luxury option available exclusively on the four-door Sahara trim. That makes me think the hardcore Rubicon and basic Sport trims would still run a “traditional” manual ’box.

Other interesting tentative confirmations from this leak include further discussion of the new Wrangler’s engine options: an updated 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo and a 3.0-liter turbo diesel V6 coming out in late 2019. A six-speed manual transmission and two eight-speed automatics also appear to be on the options list for transmissions, along with a power soft top(!) and a color called “Nacho Clear Coat.”
Don’t forget to take this information with a grain of salt, since even if it’s legit, Jeep might decide to make changes before production and sales are green-lit.
But you can peep the screen shots in question and see if there are any other details JL Wrangler Forums missed, or check out the breakdown list the forum complied right here:

Hopefully it doesn't go the way of the Grand Cherokee, where to get a Diesel version, you have to buy a loaded out, top-of-the-line trim package and it prices it out of any sort of reason.

Not the whole thing but it's definitely a JLU.

New Jeep Wrangler caught nearly uncovered

Goodbye bulky prototype covers

Finally, after months of seeing Wrangler prototypes carefully covered up, we get a look at some prototypes with the bare minimum of camouflage. Starting from the front, the fascia looks just as it did in previously leaked images. In contrast to the outgoing model, the trademark grille slots are now taller, stretching nearly to the top of the grille surround. The headlights also intersect with the grille slots, resulting in slightly pinched slots at either end. Aside from the grille, we can get a clear view of the new horizontal, fender-mounted turn signals and the traditional exposed hood latches.

Moving along the SUV, we find hinges at the base of the windshield, which seems to confirm that you'll still be able to fold it down for maximum wind exposure. And, as we've seen before, the doors have exposed hinges that indicate the doors can come off, too. We can also see that the Wrangler will be offered with both contrasting black plastic fender flares, and with body-colored versions. But unlike past models, the body-colored examples aren't completely painted, leaving a black strip along the edges. Interestingly, the fender vents seen on another fully exposed example of the Wrangler don't appear to be present on these prototypes. They could be covered, or they may be an optional appearance item.

At the back, we now get to see the Wrangler's new taillights, which are LED units with an I-beam shape. The exposed gas filler cap is now gone, in favor of a permanently attached filler door. Both the license plate mount and rear window wiper have been moved, too. The license plate now mounts to the bumper, and the rear wiper hides at the base of the rear window behind the spare tire. The rear bumper also gets some red lenses that could simply be reflectors, or possibly rear fog lights.

As previously reported, the new Jeep Wrangler is expected to make its debut at this year's LA auto show, with the first deliveries arriving to dealers not long after. It will be available with either a four-cylinder or V6 at launch, with a diesel coming later, and the truck sometime after that. Other new features to the Wrangler could include a roof with power sliding panels, and full-time four-wheel drive.

2018 Jeep Wrangler spy shots

Image 1 / 21

Jeep’s next-generation Wrangler, the JL, is almost here.
The reveal is now just a few months away and the latest prototypes are wearing barely any camouflage gear.
They reveal a number of details such as the new grille, front and rear fascias, front and rear LED lights, hinges for the fold-down windshield and doors, and a flush fuel-filler cap.
Jeep is also out testing the 4-door Wrangler Unlimited, and a Wrangler pickup, possibly dubbed the Scrambler, has also been confirmed for production.

Jeep isn’t planning any major surprises regarding the design of its JL Wrangler. Look for the vehicle to match the current generation’s rugged body-on-frame design, solid axles and mostly steel construction. Some aluminum will be used, however, in an effort to improve fuel economy.
Additional fuel-saving measures will include the availability of a turbocharged inline-4 and even a turbocharged V-6 diesel, with the latter getting a late release. The core powertrain should remain a V-6, however. Transmission options will include 6-speed manual and 8-speed automatic units.
Some versions of the new Wrangler will also be offered with full-time 4-wheel drive. That's according to leaked information that surfaced in August.
Production will take place at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ plant in Toledo, Ohio, starting late this year. The world debut is expected at November’s 2017 Los Angeles auto show, with the vehicle to arrive as a 2018 model.

2018 Jeep Wrangler Shows Its Familiar Shape In Reader Spy Photos

@media(min-width: 300px) { .example_responsive_5 { width: 336px; height: 280px; text-align: center;} }
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler continues its slow march to production as reader Brett Borgard has caught a handful of prototypes in Colorado.

Spotted alongside the facelifted Cherokee, the Wrangler prototypes are heavily camouflaged but there's no hiding the fact the model will have an evolutionary design that is instantly recognizable.

Despite the design déjà vu, the 2018 Wrangler will incorporate a number of subtle styling changes including front fender vents, new door handles, and a prominent character line that integrated into the doors. Previous photos have also shown the model will have a flatter hood with large bumpers for the folding windscreen.

Despite the minor exterior styling changes, the cabin is slated to be more stylish and upscale than its predecessor. Dealership information has already revealed an assortment of options will be available including air conditioning, leather seats, and an Alpine audio system. There will also be a modern infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.

The 2018 Wrangler will be unveiled in November and is expected to be offered with three different engines. Choices are slated to include a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, a 3.6-liter V6, and a 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel. They will reportedly be connected to either a six-speed manual or a new eight-speed automatic.

The Wrangler has never been known for its fuel-efficiency but the new model should be more eco-friendly as it is slated to adopt a number of aluminum components. This should result in a significant weight savings but there's no word on specifics as of yet.
