Default Saint Bernard...family pet ... advice needed

Due to work we have to move from our place in the country, we have a 6-7 Y/O Saint Bernard we have had since he was 1. House Broken and loves family, he is very protective, which is great when I traveled and for the kids, if he did not know you, he was not aggressive but protective.
he is a people pet, he loves to be near you, sleeps at the foot of my bed, and when I worked from home, right beside my desk or on the futon when I worked, only barked when he heard something outside. he has never had a accident in the house, and doesnt chew, loves his bones and loves to play.
The place we are moving to does not allow pets, and we are needing to decide what to do with "Teddy", he would need to adopt a family, as I think with him being territorial, he has to know the right person. Funny some guys he likes ,and some.. he just wont let out of the car.. He can look menacing. He has been around other dogs, outside, and a cat as well.
Looking for a good family to adopt him, or ideas on what to do. It is very sad we cannot take him and want to make sure he is taken care of. I dont want/need money for him, but maybe a donation to a shelter for adopting him? My concern of using Craigs list to list him, is you really dont know what you get there? I am SE of KC, so if you know of someone, or want a great dog, please let me know.

BTW he loves kids, loves to ride in a car, but also a full size big dog..

This is him playing in the snow..

sorry for the long post, thanks for reading.

I would love to adopt him, if I wasn't fairly certain I'll be living in an apartment for the next 5 years or so....

And I can't think of any families that have the room and aren't already full on dogs.. Sorry..

Find a new place to live? I could never give my dog away. Ever.

Good luck finding him a good home, though. Wish I could help but I don't have room for a dog this size.

Is this a mandatory place to live? I couldn't live somewhere that made me change what I loved. "You can't live here and golf/fish/have a loud car". I'd just continue looking.

But nonetheless, Good luck on finding him a good home. Beautiful dog.

You might try reaching out to a few of these organizations? I think that they would be a more viable option than simply posting an advertisement locally or on Craigslist.

I do not know anything personally about them and simply did a local search for St. Bernard rescue in the area. Truly a beautiful dog and I am sure someone will be able to help you find him a new home.

There will be nothing easy about this process. I cannot imagine having to give away a part of your family. The best thing you can do for him and yourself is to ensure that he has a happy new home with a family that will love and care for him as much as you have. I hope through networking through some of those organizations you are able to find the best possible place for him.

What about neighbors around where you currently live?

I never got this type of situation. I would never EVER give up my dog. He is a member of my family...

Is there no way you can find another place to live?

thanks guys,, I know what you mean. I have never been w/o a dog except while in college or while active in the Marines...

We had him adopted out, and I miss him dearly.. I have lost some great dogs in my life, one was with us 15 years.. but now when I come home we dont see him jumping up and wagging his tail, and then knocking something down..

our current situation just would not allow it, and my MIL was just too nervous to take him, she did take the dog that was left at our house as a stray and is happy with him. Having Teddy stay with her would not have been a good situation for either of them. I have to make some tough decisions, but I think it is the best for all.. I do miss him, although I don't miss all the hair we use to have at the old house..

I feel protection, safety and security is a two sided street. I owe him as much or more as he has giving this to us for many years. I just hope the new family will love him as much and he will as well.

Sorry for the long post.. been a rough few weeks..
