Default Question for the car audio gurus

Let me start off by admitting that I know nothing about car audio aside from when something isn't working. For example, my front, passenger-side dash speaker isn't working anymore. I figured this out by using the fade and balance knobs on my radio to focus all the sound to that speaker, and nothing plays out of it. The rest of the speakers in my car are fine.

Everything audio-related in my car (2004 Dodge Neon SRT-4) is stock. Nothing has been changed or upgraded. But, I would very much like to replace the front dash speaker that doesn't work anymore.

I currently have a pair of Focal Polyglass 165 VB separates, new in box, that look like they will fit. The tweeters look like they can mount in the dash positions, and the 6.5" woofer in the doors. These speakers didn't cost me anything, so if I can't use them, no problem.

What I don't know is if I need to get an aftermarket head unit to run these speakers, or if they will run off the factory radio/CD player. Does it even make sense to put these kind of speakers in without an upgraded head unit? Will the sound quality be pretty poor with these speakers in the front and the stock 6x9's in the back?

Thanks for the help.

Not a guru myself but I think the only benefit to aftermarket stereo would be to use the new speakers to there fullest potential by having more options of customization.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe the srt-4's have a "premium" sound system with a factory amplifier. A speaker that has completely gone out could turn into an ugly situation fast if a channel on that amp has gone out, especially for someone without experience in car audio.

Is it an actual tweeter or is it the ~2.5" mid that is in most Chrysler products? If it is a tweeter you should be good (although, replace both at the same time), if it is the mid you need to replace it with another mid or you will lose most of your upper midrange response.
