There's your female. They should start spawning any time if they haven't already. Prepare for them to take over the cave and not let anyone else anywhere near it.

I'm pretty sure I've got 3 females and 3 males, from what I can tell them have paired already.

The fish in the 1st photo and the female you quoted have taken over the cave already. That female is a little bitch. She swims around the bottom with her gils puffed and mouth opened. It's pretty funny to watch. The Penguin tetra test their boundaries constantly.

the other pairs have set up in the middle and then the back right of the tank behind my other rock structure. They spend most of their time as a group swimming in the current from the inlet.

I started dosing with some additional basic Seachem flourish. My snails were looking white and my hygro was melting off. I've been doing 2ml of flourish daily for just this week. Since Saturday when I did the first dose, my ruffle plant has produced 3 new leafs each and went from a nub to huge as of last night. I'm just hoping my hygrophilia turns around.

I know I'ves got 2 males and 4 females now.

I have a female that I'm 90% sure has dug a cave in the sand under the slate in the far back corner. She only peaks out and I watched her shred a tetra who was just swimming by.

Anyone want some convict fry in a few weeks lol

I'm looking at it as

If the did infact breed in that cave
A. I have a healthy tank
B. I'm about to loose a bunch of fish

You are correct on all parts. They are 100% breeding and they will 100% kill anything that gets too close. Its going to get real crazy with multiple breeding pairs in a tank that small.

Once my other male pairs up, I'm going to remove the other two females. I have a red rubn I'm going to put in the front middle to get some more break up in the tank. The hygro is coming out if they up root them again.

Default 30g gold ram

Now that the 50 gallon is flourishing nicely, and Celeste saying she wanted to help design a new tank. I purchased Sphongle's 29 gallon tall set up. Brian gave me a solid deal on it. Thanks Brian for making this happen for us.

Here is the equipment I purchased

Tank and stand
Aquatic life T5 light bar
Eheim Ecco model 2232 canister
Hagen C02 system
plus a bunch of miscellaneous stuff

I love the DIY stuff, my first stop was to Ace hardware for some PVC pipe.

I used GE silicon 1, covered the pvc and then rolled it in the white substrate sand. To give it a "natural" look.

The one above ^^^ is infront under the drift wood

The mopani driftwood is still "tea'n" the water, so it's going to soak for a few more days.

As far as plants selected to go in

Background
2 Cabomba caroliniana
2 Sagittaria platyphylla
1 Egeria densa

mid ground
1 Echinodorus osiris
1 Echinodorus amazonicus

front
1 Lobelia cardinalis "Dwarf" I want to put this one in the front right corner

I know for German rams they want a dense planting, are these 8 plants going to be to much? Think I have a good variety?

So I've been watching the tank for the last few days. No fry yet, and my male is trying vary vary vary hard to court my female that dug the cave out. He's dancing infront of it, swimming back and forth infront of the cave. She doesn't seem to be having much of it. Is there anything I can do to help him lol? She just runs him off and goes back into the cave.

Lol she'll pick the male she wants, you can't force it. Sometimes doing a big water change will help speed up the spawning process. Just give them their time though. After the fry hatch you probably won't even know it for a while. All of a sudden you'll see a bunch of little dudes swimming around on the bottom.

What did you order?

I'm in the process of establishing a grow out tank. I've figured out what type of plants my convicts will tolerate. I have a red flame, red rubin and some javs fern to attach to my new mopani wood my mother in law gave me. Between the plants I have in the 29 gallon, and what's in the 50, once they start to branch out, the growout tank will be stocked nicely. I have a few more plants I want. Just waiting for another raok on the planted tank.

I will post some in progress pics this week. I have pulled the corymbosa out. Its in the growout tank. Waiting for roots and the stems will go in the 29 gallon.

Haha welcome to hell! You may want to wrap a sponge around your filter intake because it will suck up fry.

the Fluval has an internal sponge in the top of the filter end. 144 hours from when the eggs are layed to free swimming. She's was fanning them this morning. I'm guessing sometime tomorrow things we start to go down. I've got my holding tank mid cycle. If it's not done by the time these are ready to go, I'm just going to let nature take it's course this go around.

Im taking the white sand out tonight. It was a great idea, but it's not working out like I want. Switching over to some black fine sand. I'm going to pull everything out and redo it.
