Dodge is creative I see

That new SRT Viper logo looks awfully familiar...

When Chrysler showed off the new SRT Viper logo earlier this week, something struck us as odd. It looked familiar. A little too familiar. And not just in the Cobra Command way.

It took until this morning and a tip from our friend John to make the connection. Look at the new Viper logo, then look at the Flying Lizard Motorsports on the right. Coincidence? Surely. But still, there's got to be more than one way to draw a nice asp...

SRT releases mysterious second teaser for next gen Viper

SRT, the recently formed standalone brand of Chrysler, is determined to reveal the new 2013 Viper nice and slow. After releasing the first teaser image last month and offering a first look at the new 'Stryker' Viper logo, SRT has just posted a second teaser image of the 2013 Viper on their official Facebook page. While this second photo is much more clear than the first, what exactly is shown in the image is up to debate. Yes, it looks to be a carbon fiber scoop, but what kind?

While we may not know exactly what's in the second Viper teaser, here's what we do know about SRT's next gen flagship: Traction control will be used for the first time in the model's history as mandated by federal law, and while the 2013 Viper's powertrain is still unconfirmed, there are rumors that the V10 could get a bump in displacement to an incredible 8.7 liters.

We'll have all the details and photos when the 2013 SRT Viper is revealed during April's New York Auto Show. Until then we're sure that SRT will have more teasers, which we'll be sure to pass along. If you think you know what's being shown in this latest image then let us know in the comments section below.

2013 SRT Viper: Is This Hot Wheels Car It?

Brazilian Hot Wheels fan site T-Hunted claims that this image is the new 2013 SRT Viper. Looks pretty close to me — except, you know, where are the fangs?
I kid.
But, you know, I can totally buy that Chrysler tossed Hot Wheels the specs and images early — the same thing happened with the Dodge Challenger SRT8 back in 2008 so it could happen here too. But whatever,wWe'll know more for sure as we get closer to the New York Auto Show — and we see it revealed officially.

The trucks are under the "ram" brand. They do not say dodge on them anymore.

I think it is it. Looks a lot like what we saw at VOI. Anyone good at Photoshop and can clean it up?

2013 SRT Viper is starting to vent

There seems to be an endless stream of spy shots scrolling across out digital desktops here at Autoblog, and some will invariably be more interesting than others. But few are as hotly anticipated as the new Viper that's coming roaring around the corner.

So far, all Chrysler has given us is a shadowy sketch, a close-up detail shot, and the new badge that will represent the model, joining the test mule spy shots we've been seeing for the past several months and the Hot Wheels leak we brought you yesterday. But this latest batch of spy shots appears the clearest yet – despite the best efforts of the SRT development team (including a Dukes of Hazzard-style hood slide that compelled KGP Photography to do a quick bit of wry image manipulation).

So what can we see from these pics? Ventilation, and lots of it. There is a pair of massive hood vents that pass air through the grille over the hood like you'd expect to see on a Le Mans race car. And through the mesh on Dolly Parton-size hood bra you can see a pair of uprights in the grille forming a V shape that's a slight departure from the crosshair grille of the previous Vipers. (Remember, this is technically an SRT product and – like the Ram trucks – no longer a Dodge.)

We're also seeing the clearest shots yet of the interior, with what looks like a full digital dashboard (complete with 220 mph speedo) instead of analog instruments. With each passing day, we hope to see a little more, but for now you can check out the full batch of spy shots in the gallery for a closer look.

Is this the 2013 SRT Viper's new nose and hood?

We have to ask the question above because, in all honesty, we don't know for sure if these are images of the 2013 SRT Viper, specifically its new nose and hood. Sent to Autoblog by an anonymous tipster, the images appear to be of a mold of some sort, possibly used to make the tooling for the engine cover, fenders and front end of the new Viper.

Based on recent spy shots, as well as the slip by Hot Wheels, these images could be the real deal. Two things make us think that. The first are those three vents in the hood: the central NACA duct and a pair of large air outlets behind it. We can see them on the spy shots in the gallery below and they're present in these images, as well. The second is the lower grille. Our recent spy shots indicate that the familiar Dodge cross-hairs are being replaced by two vertical bars in a slight 'V' shape that bisect a pair of horizontal lines. That matches to a tee the mold we see in the above gallery.

We won't venture any further speculation since it's entirely possible these images aren't of what we think they are. We'll know for sure when the real deal debuts at the New York Auto Show in early April, or maybe sooner if things progress as they have been.

Here's JONSIBAL's take (he is about 95% close on all of his renderings, pretty bad ass)

Chrysler’s reborn Viper won’t make its public debut for about a month, but our illustrator has put together a highly detailed rendering of the new performance car that will help boost the profile of the company’s Street and Racing Technology division.

Set to become the first vehicle marketed under the SRT banner, the 2013 Viper has been a long time coming. Its Dodge Viper predecessor has been out of production since mid-2010, but a fifth-generation snake will debut next month at the New York International Auto Show.
Our illustration is based on information culled from a number of sources, one of which is rather unusual, to say the least. While information gleaned from insiders, including those few members of the public who have been allowed to see the car, and photos of cleverly disguised test mules form the basis of much of the illustration’s details, a leaked image of a Hot Wheels 1/64-scale toy car helped put the finishing touches on our rendering.
That Hot Wheels model made its way online last week when it was posted on a Viper forum.
We expect the Viper’s proportions to remain mostly unchanged, but its rear end is more aggressive and angular than the one seen on the last generation. As predicted by spy shots and previous reports, the car features a high-sculpted hood fitted with two big air vents.
Those vents will be needed as the SRT Viper is expected to arrive with an 8.7-liter V10 engine that will send over 600 horsepower to the rear wheels. Early rumors suggested the car would share some of its architecture with the voluptuous, if slightly un-engaging Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, but SRT chief Ralph Gilles has been quick to dispel those rumors by stating that “The new Viper is not based on anything else.”
As previously reported, Chrysler is reopening its Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit to build the Viper. The automaker has offered jobs to all 150 workers it once employed at the facility, which it uses exclusively to hand-build Vipers.
“The next generation Viper will make its return to the product lineup in late 2012 as a 2013 model,” said SRT Brand & Motorsports President/CEO Ralph Gilles in a statement released to the media. “We’re extremely excited that our ultimate American sports car will continue to live on and be produced exclusively here in the Motor City.”

looks better than the previous SRT-10, like seening some curves again.

I do however think the RT-10 was the coolest looking one made
or better yet the 1989 concept car, sooo sexy looking !!

Edit : BTW does anyone remember the "copperhead concept" they did around the end of the 90's ?
kinda ugly but cool idea.

2013 SRT Viper Roadster rendered

2013 SRT Viper Roadster artist rendering / Jon Sibal

The new 2013 SRT Viper is just two short days away from celebrating its official unveiling at the New York Auto Show. The performance brand will initially show the coupe variant before an open-top version is released further down the line.
Ahead of the event, we can now treat you to a rendering by Jon Sibal that speculates the design of the production SRT Viper Roadster.
The coupe variant of the new model has been teased on a number of occasions by SRT. There has also been an alleged leak of a Hot Wheels replica model that is said to be a accurate scale model - a fact that is still unconfirmed.
All is set to be revealed at the New York Auto Show on April 4th and you can watch it live on SRT's website here.

2013 SRT Viper

2013 SRT Viper Hits Forza Ahead Of New York Auto Show

The no-longer-Dodge 2013 SRT Viper has slithered out more than a day ahead of its New York Auto Show debut, revealing every angle of the gorgeous new America supercar. The feds may insist on giving it traction control, but they can't take away its voluptuous snakeskin, seen here courtesy of what appears to be Forza 4 screenshots (thus please forgive the quality) from a video we desperately want to see.
If this car was designed after a naked woman on the beach, we want to meet that woman.
An anonymous tipster sent these photos to Inside Line who kindly shared the images with everyone else. InsideLine guesses that these photos are from "the presentation SRT will be giving tomorrow." That might be true, but we agree with the Forza Motorsport forums that these look to be a mixture of garage and Top Gear Test Track photos.
Visually, the new Viper carries over the proportions of the outgoing model but injected with a bit of collagen. Each curve is curvier. Each crease is creasier. Each scoop is scoopier.

View the gallery

Actual details like weight, power, and performance are still yet to be revealed (stay up late tomorrow night). It doesn't matter for now. You'll take what you can get and you'll like it.
