Default RIP "DODGE" Viper

in reference: http://www.kcsr.org/showthread.php?t...ighlight=Viper

SRT Viper

2013 SRT Viper slithers free of Dodge name

Chrysler announced today that it'll officially reopen the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit, MI in late 2012 to build the 2013 SRT Viper. The real news, however, is that when it slithers out of its old skin it'll also shed the Dodge moniker with it.
"The next generation Viper will make its return to the product lineup in late 2012 as a 2013 model," said SRT Brand & Motorsports President/CEO Ralph Gilles in a press release earlier today. "We're extremely excited that our ultimate American sports car will continue to live on and be produced exclusively here in the Motor City."
From now on, the Dodge brand will also no longer play host to the Viper. Instead the supercar will just be called the SRT Viper.
So let me get this straight — since Fiat's taken over they've now added three new brand sales channels? Yes, the Italians are monuments to efficiency, aren't they?

Well, better than I expected. I opened it up expecting it to be named the Chrysler Viper

yea, I'm not sure how:

Fiat
Dodge
SRT
RAM
Chrysler
Alpha (maybe)

works. Does that mean Abarth will be a different brand as well?

Abarth should be a "tuning arm" like I figured SRT would be I guess they are pulling what SVT did in a way

I never understood why they called the later ones a SRT-10 Viper anyway, it's not like they made a base Viper, and then the SRT model on top of it. So i guess just calling it a SRT Viper is fine. But deep down we all know it's a Dodge anyway.

Dodge (being a "truck" division or moving that way) I am sure FIAT didn't want that brand being associated with it

Next SRT Viper Going To Loyal Fans First

2013 Dodge Viper test-mule spy shots

The 2013 SRT Viper may be the most anticipated sports car in the history of Chrysler Corporation. The original Viper enjoyed an 18-year production run, amassing a considerable number of fans, before finances and revised safety regulations forced its demise in 2010.

There has been plenty of rumor and innuendo regarding the next generation Viper, which will make its debut at the New York Auto Show in April. While we don’t yet know exactly what will be underneath the Viper’s yet-to-be-seen hood, we’re getting a feel for what it will take to own one.

No, we don’t have pricing on the new Viper yet (although we’re sure there are plenty of rumors floating around), but MSNBC’s The Bottom Line is reporting that initial ownership will be reserved for existing Viper owners.

And no, snapping up a used Viper from your local car lot won’t put you atop the list, either. In fact, initial deliveries of the 2013 Viper will be going to members of the Viper Club of America, and will probably be decided by some sort of lottery.

SRT, the Chrysler brand behind the new Viper (and the SRT8 versions of the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger) expects that first-year demand will far outstrip its ability to build a few thousand Vipers. Even 1994’s production quantity of 3,083 units (a record for the Viper) may not satisfy pent-up demand.

We’ll bring you all the news that’s fit to print about the new Viper from the 2012 New York Auto Show. Be sure to follow our complete show coverage here.

Facts are:
V-10 Engine
Stability Control (First "nanny" Viper has ever had if you don't count ABS (2001))
Debuting in NY Autoshow (April)
Change to Pirelli tires
Current VCA members are going to get the first crack at it.
Called "SRT Viper" instead of Dodge Viper"

The rumours are:
700 hp
Hard Core Version with a 6 speed and a Softer version with a Paddle Shifter option (Which I heard directly from Ralph Gilles but still consider it a rumour a I heard it over a year ago.)
It's going to look very simular to the concept car they showed us VCA members at VOI.

They need to just stop.

This million different "brands" under one roof is getting out of control.
They're all the same garbage.

Do what the Germans do.

One brand, then a tuning division. One brand, with many models.

Keep It Simple Stupid.

They're not fooling anyone with this idiocy in naming these cars.

It's fucking Dodge, they can't tell their own asshole from a hole in the ground. Does anyone expect them to succeed with this over 9000 brand named cars gig? No. All the bailouts did was postpone the inevitable. The bitch is sinking.

Was the viper program even profitable for them in previous incarnations? I remember reading that the first run was a wash, as the R&D, tooling and training of specific techs washed any potential for the program to even consider ending in the black.

Halo vehicles get people excited, and bring people into a dealership. Someone may go to a Dodge dealer to see a new Viper that they could not afford, but may end up buying a Challenger R/T that they can. When you try to seperate all the popular vehicles into these "sub-brands" you take value away from the main one. If Dodge continues in this manner eventually there may not be a "Dodge" brand.

I liked the idea that SRT was similar to AMG, M, SVT, etc. A division in house that was responsible for making performance vehicles. Now with that said I am still excited to see what the new Viper is all about...
