Next-gen Nissan Leaf spotted undisguised

Driven on closed roads for a video shoot, the car did not escape the prying eyes of nearby hotel guests.
Nissan's next-generation Leaf has apparently been spotted undisguised on a closed public road in Spain during a film shoot.

Photos captured by a nearby hotel guest and posted by Norway's TV 2 show an unannounced Nissan model that closely matches partial teaser shots for the new Leaf.

As expected, the modernized Leaf has been significantly overhauled to bring the EV in line with Nissan's latest design language, adopting the brand's characteristic 'V-motion' front grille and a dark floating roof inspired by the Murano and Maxima.

Styling will undoubtedly play a significant role in sustaining or increasing Leaf sales as the EV market becomes increasingly competitive. The Leaf will soon have to fight for its segment-leading status as major automakers launch long-range mass-market models in the coming years.

The new Leaf is expected to get a significant range increase to 200 miles or more, though specific details are being kept quiet until Nissan's official September launch event.

I want a leaf really bad as a daily. If I didn't have a need for the truck I just bought I was going to get a LEAF.

It's definitely better looking than the last one, though I still don't think it's going to sell all that well unless it's sub 30k. Bolt EV isn't doing well as I've heard either.

To their defense, the Bolt is not for sale nationwide yet. That's supposed to come sometime this month (August).

But, as I've been saying before, the general public does not want econoboxes. They want pickups, sedans, and SUV's. The Bolt really wasn't designed to be a player for fear of cannibalizing sales of their bread and butter. The Bolt is just another compliance car designed to earn them emissions credits to sell their other cars. The Bolt will just be discounted appropriately per month to get the sales needed for the credits required.

They marketed it as "the car for everyone" so obviously they misjudged their audience

Just marketing for their compliance vehicle.

The top 10 selling vehicles last year were (in this order), F-150, Silverado, Ram, Camry, Corolla, Civic, CRV, Rav4, Accord, Rogue. Econoboxes not found.

The 2018 Nissan Leaf Is No Tesla Model 3 But It Won't Cost Nearly As Much

Here is the 2018 Nissan Leaf, a car weíve already heard almost everything about. It may look like you wouldnít be able to tell if it was a Chevy Bolt or a Honda Fit if it got in even the slightest of traffic incidents, but the technology has been improved and it actually seems like a pretty sweet deal.

The new Leaf is a neat little car that seems perfect for a daily commute that isnít punishingly long. While itís performance figures put it at a disadvantage against a Chevy Bolt or a Tesla Model 3, its $29,990 starting price before incentives puts it at a big cost advantage. That is attractively cheap for a reliable and easily-serviceable electric vehicle.
The all-new model improves on just about everything from the outgoing Leaf, though the smooth, egg-like styling did slowly grow on me. Nonetheless, the new Leaf now has an EPA-estimated 150 miles of range from a new 40 kWh battery. Nissan claims it will reveal a more powerful Leaf sometime next year.

Previous leaked reported figures of 147 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque have been confirmed, and top speed is limited to 87 mph. The gross vehicle weight is rated at 4,453 pounds.
The exciting stuff is all of the other technology Nissan has piped into the car, including some semi-autonomous functionalities with its ProPilot system, where the car can manage single-lane highway driving. Thatís paired with a self-parking feature, as well as a single-pedal operation mode called e-Pedal, where you can control acceleration and deceleration with just a single pedal.
The outgoing Leaf sold moderately well with 112,000 puppies pushed out in the U.S. since 2010, but I canít decide if the new one is enough to boost those numbers against a growing field of competent and stylish competitors. But if the prospect of a very affordable fuel-less 5-door hatchback appeals to you as it should millions of people, Nissan might be in its sweet spot.
The Leaf will go on sale in all 50 states early next year.

Though certainly not yet a common car, 2,107 August sales made the Chevrolet Bolt more popular than the Audi A3, BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz CLA, Ford Flex, Chevrolet Spark, Mazda CX-9, Ford C-Max, and Jaguar F-Pace, among many others. Bolt sales were also 83 percent stronger than U.S. sales of the Nissan Leaf.
