Default 1998 Dodge Neon ACR 2-door

Year: 1998
Make: Dodge
Model: Neon
Mileage: 170,000
Title Status: Clean, no lien
Transmission: 5-speed manual
Drivetrain: Front wheel drive

Asking/Offering Price: $1700
Email Address/Phone Number (optional):
Location: Topeka, KS
Name: Scott
Item Description: 1998 Dodge Neon 2-door, true ACR model, 2.0 DOHC, 5-speed transmission. ACR stands for American Club Racer, essentially they were factory race cars with many owners competing in SCCA racing. If you don't know about the ACR models, you can learn a little more here: http://faq.neons.org/faq/FAQ_OEM.html#ACR

Is has approximately 170,000 miles, however, the speedometer quits working occasionally, so I'm sure it has more miles. Due to it being an ACR model, it has manual windows and locks, no tilt, no cruise, no radio, no ABS. It does have WORKING air conditioning (blew around 52 degrees with a 96 degree ambient temperature and 106 degree heat index), rear window defroster, competition suspension, and 4-wheel disc brakes. I do have an aftermarket CD player, 4 speakers, and a small amplifier that will go with the car.

The previous owner(s) installed: Borla exhaust, unknown brand exhaust header, unknown brand lowering springs, Kosei 15" wheels, Iceman cold-air intake, HID headlights, unknown brand short-throw shifter, and probably some other stuff.

Here's the stuff which isn't perfect on the car: several small dings, the window tint on the side windows has faded to purple, the tint on the back window isn't completely removed, the cooling fan runs via a toggle switch instead of kicking on by the sensor, the aforementioned speedometer (common problem), the trunk sometimes leaks (common problem), the driver's seat side bolster is broken down, it looks like it had a body kit on it at some point and there is still some molding tape left on the lower edge of the car, the driver's window could use a new window regulator but the window still rolls up and down with a little assistance, you'll sometimes get a squeal from the power steering belt when turning the steering wheel at low rpms, the check engine light was on when I bought it and I pulled the codes which showed a misfire on all 4 cylinders P0300, P0301, P0302, & P0303), a code due to the exhaust header (P0140), and one due to the cooling fan thermostat deal (P1491). The car drove just fine, so I never messed with it. Today, I reset the codes and took it for an 8 mile drive and the P0140 and P1491 tripped again, but not the misfire codes.

Remember, this is an 18-year old car, so it's not perfect. It's a good car for the money and it runs and drives great. I'm a car guy having owned over 50 vehicles in the past 20 years, so I notice all of the little things that aren't perfect. I bought this to get back into SCCA racing and I did one autocross event prior to buying my 12th Mustang and losing interest in the Neon. I've kept it for a few months since it's paid for and the air conditioner works but I really don't ever drive it except once every-other week to keep the battery charged.

I have title-in-hand. No trades, cash only in-person. I will meet you at Menards if you want to look at it. Email with questions or to make arrangements to see it. I'm normally work Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but I'm going to be working a couple of night shifts to help with a manpower shortage, so please understand if I don't reply right away.

Are you negotiable on the price at all? This is exactly what I'm looking for.

For what is worth, the OP is an extremely honest guy. I have bought cars and bikes from him and was never disappointed. You can't go wrong with this little thing.

Glad he is selling it quickly. They are fun light cars. I have a 99 Neon no optioned highline coupe with 2L DOHC w/ 5 speed as my daily. Car is a blast to drive. I have got right over 40mpg on my last 2 fill ups. 170k miles 4 years of ownership, no major issues. Runs and drives great. Just got to be careful in them due to their horrible crash ratings.
