Default Traffic jam on 335 (v.fuckmylife)

So I left Saint Joseph at 2:00 after watching the eclipse at my in-laws. We live in Wichita, and we decided to go through Atchison, KS (59) to avoid all the traffic that was being reported on I29. Huge fucking mistake. We were at a dead stop traffic jam just inside Atchison city limits due to a head on accident. So we finally hit some back roads to try and get around it. We can't. It's gridlock no matter which way we go. We finally make it to Topeka after 3.5 hours in the Atchison area. I'm on the turnpike thinking I'm home free, when just south of Emporia, I see a mile long string of brake lights. We proceed to sit in bumper to bumper traffic for almost 2 hours to travel like 15 miles. I'm thinking, "Surely there's some gnarly accident just over the hill." Nope. Just fucking idiots who don't know how to zipper merge when they come to a one lane construction zone. So here I am after sitting in the car for over 7 hours on a trip that should have taken under 4, and we're STILL 25 minutes out. I switched seats with my wife about an hour ago, and she's already complaining about driving. Stupid eclipse.

I was in the garage working on my truck. I never left my house. Come eclipse time, popped out and watched it for about 15 minutes, and got back to work. Heck with all that traffic. The over the interstate boards were broadcasting a warning about traffic. Thanks but no thanks. That's NC for you, though.

same with me literally. Was turning a wrench in my garage, popped my head out to see the eclipse, went back to to my project.

I had to drive up near the total eclipse area to visit one of our practices but I was able to get away early and it was only kind of bad. But I was heading back down to the city around noon (our eclipse was about 2:30) and I got to see all of the fun. Thankfully I was going the opposite direction. 3-4 lane interstate was a parking lot for miles and miles and miles here.

I took a longer lunch and drove up to Liberty. Lasted about a min up there. Right before it went 100% some very light clouds started to pass over, so didnt get to see any of the cool shadow effects.

Highways were fine going up (71 & 435) with very little traffic. As soon as the totality was over I headed back to work, few more cars but not rush hour bad or anything.

Was worth the drive for sure.

We drove up to the Isle of Capri Casino, off front street and went to the top of the parking garage. Was pretty cool. Left right after totality and had no traffic issues. Wife shot these.

Nah, unless it rains our traffic isnt really that bad, I think people just like to bitch about it. They've actually done a lot of road works that have helped.

And this was up in the sticks, where its rarely bad. When I say parking lot Im not exaggerating either. 7-8 mile stretches approaching each town was just plain stopped (probably the traffic merging on doing it, each ramp was full).

My parents said Highway 77 was a parking lot coming into Marysville, KS yesterday. That intersection probably sees 40 cars a day on average.

I took the day off and drove east on 24. Ended up stopping just north of Knob Noster. Clear skies to watch the eclipse and we didn't really run into any traffic.
