NFL announces it has moved Chiefs-Rams Monday night game to Los Angeles

After evaluating field conditions in Mexico City, the NFL decided moving the game to Los Angeles was the best option.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 11 game against the Los Angeles Rams has been relocated from Mexico City, Mexico, to Los Angeles, California.
Here is the official statement from the NFL:
Chiefs-Rams Game To Move From Mexico City to Los Angeles Due to Field Conditions
The decision is based on the determination – in consultation with the NFLPA and following a meeting and field inspection this afternoon by NFL and club field experts as well as local and independent outside experts – that the playing field at Estadio Azteca does not meet NFL standards for playability and consistency and will not meet those standards by next Monday.
”We have worked extensively with our partners at Estadio Azteca for months in preparation for this game,” said NFL Executive Vice President of InternationalMark Waller. ”Until very recently, we had no major concerns. But, the combination of a difficult rainy season and a heavy multi-event calendar of events at the stadium, have resulted in significant damage to the field that presents unnecessary risks to player safety and makes it unsuitable to host an NFL game. As a result, we have determined that moving the game is the right decision, and one that we needed to announce now in order to allow our teams and fans to make alternate arrangements.”
Details on ticket reimbursement procedures will be announced in the days ahead.
All NFL teams that forgo a home game to play internationally are required to keep their home stadium available as a contingency, and the Rams will be announcing ticket information and other logistical details for Monday night’s game at the LA Coliseum as soon as possible.
Photos and videos showing horrible field conditions at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, where the game was to be played, began surfacing this weekend.
Monday and Tuesday, reports from ESPN and Yahoo! Sports confirmed that the NFL was worried. Upon inspection in Mexico City Tuesday, the NFL decided moving the game to LA was the best option.

There is good and bad to this decision.

The good is that the NFL cut its losses and in making the change, avoided a bigger disaster, which would have been injuries to its two Super Bowl favorites. No injury to any player is acceptable, but it’s worth noting the Monday night rosters include two MVP candidates in Patrick Mahomes and Todd Gurley.

The bad is that the time and date on the Mexico City game was set in April 2018. How more specific and clear plans weren’t in place to avoid such a gaffe is incredible. There are no doubt Chiefs and Rams fans who made arrangements to attend the game in Mexico City and are now out of a lot of money. In addition, this thwarts the league’s opportunity to continue in its international expansion efforts.

When it comes to the actual game, the Chiefs might have a slight advantage, given the Rams’ decision to move their operation to Colorado in order to prepare their lungs for the higher altitudes of Mexico City.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid never moved his team from Kansas City, so when the first practice of the week comes on Thursday, it will be business as usual.

Monday Night Football odds, line: Chiefs vs. Rams picks, predictions from expert who's 14-3 on Kansas City games

Micah Roberts has his finger on the pulse of Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs

The Los Angeles Rams host the Kansas City Chiefs in one of the most anticipated NFL games of the season, as the 9-1 teams square off on Monday Night Football at 8:15 p.m. ET. The game was originally scheduled for Mexico City, but was relocated to LA due to poor field conditions. In the live Chiefs vs. Rams odds, LA is a 3.5-point home favorite, while the Over-Under has rocketed from 59.5 to 63, the highest total for a NFL game since at least 1986, and perhaps ever. With so many points expected to be scored, you need to see what veteran NFL handicapper Micah Roberts has to say before locking in any Chiefs vs. Rams picks.

Roberts has worked in the Las Vegas sportsbook industry for 20 years, including a 13-year run as Station Casinos' book director. Armed with an unmatched network of sources, Roberts has started the 2018 NFL season strong. He's on a 27-17 run on NFL picks and has been especially adept at games involving the Chiefs. In fact, Roberts is on an astonishing 14-3 run on against the spread picks for or against Kansas City. Anyone who has followed him is way up.

Now, he's locked in a strong play for Monday Night Football that you can only see at SportsLine..

Roberts knows nothing has slowed down the Chiefs, who are 9-1 overall and 8-2 against the spread, including a perfect 5-0 ATS on the road. Even oddsmakers can't catch up to the NFL's No. 2-scoring offense (35.3 points per game, just behind the Saints). They've won four in a row, all by at least a touchdown.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is in a battle with New Orleans' Drew Brees for MVP honors. The second-year QB, in his first season as a starter, has thrown for 3,150 yards in 10 games, with 31 touchdowns against just seven interceptions. He has weapons galore in the pass game, led by wide receiver Tyreek Hill (55 receptions for 891 yards and nine TDs) and tight end Travis Kelce (57-787-7).

The Chiefs' defense has shown massive improvement. After surrendering 28.2 points per game the first six weeks, KC has allowed an average of just 17 the last four games. The Chiefs have also been getting after the QB, with 31 sacks so far. Linebacker Dee Ford has nine of them and defensive end Chris Jones has seven more.

But just because the Chiefs have been unstoppable doesn't mean they'll cover against the red-hot Rams.

The Chiefs garner the headlines, but the Rams' offense is nearly as good, averaging 33.5 points, third-most in the NFL. It's racked up more yards than the Chiefs, backed by the best pass-run combo in the league.

QB Jared Goff has thrown for 3,134 yards, 16 fewer than Mahomes, with 22 touchdowns and six interceptions. He's flanked by running back Todd Gurley, the league-leader in yards (98 and TDs (13). And statistically, the Rams' defense is far better than its KC counterpart. It ranks 13th in the NFL in yards allowed and is giving up 23.1 points per game, ranking 12th.

We can tell you Roberts is leaning toward the over, but he has uncovered a major x-factor that causes one side of the spread to hit hard. He's sharing what it is, and who to back, only at SportsLine.

Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs move on after Kareem Hunt's release

OAKLAND – Before getting released by the team Friday, Kansas City running back Kareem Hunt accounted for 65 percent of the team’s rushing yards and 30 percent of their offensive touchdowns, so the Chiefs knew they’d have to redistribute the load in a hurry.
In those instances, it helps to have a quarterback with Patrick Mahomes’ multiple skills.
The loss of the NFL’s fifth-leading rusher – Hunt was released after a video published by TMZ on Fridayshowed him shoving and kicking a woman in February – proved merely a blip from a football perspective for the Chiefs, who improved their AFC-best record to 10-2 by outlasting the Raiders 40-33 on Sunday behind Mahomes’ four touchdown passes.
Lacking one of his top weapons, the league’s most prolific touchdown thrower increased his gaudy season total to 41 while passing for 295 yards and running for a team-high 52.
“Patrick’s such a gamer. I’ve said this from Day 1 when I’ve seen him make some of those plays,’’ said receiver Chris Conley, who caught a 2-yard TD pass with 1:57 left to secure the victory against the stubborn Raiders.

“They were ready for us, taking away some of his options downfield and making him wait, making him take some throws underneath. And he was able to adjust to that. He was able to use his legs and extend some of those plays and ultimately hit pin drops.’’
With the Raiders determined to limit leading receiver Tyreek Hill, Mahomes set his sights on tight end Travis Kelce, who had a huge game with 168 yards and two scores while catching 12 of the 13 passes aimed his way. With the Chiefs trying to hold off Oakland late in the fourth quarter, the pair connected on a critical 25-yard strike that set up the club’s final touchdown.

“He and Patrick had something going today and it was special,’’ coach Andy Reid said.
Reid was happy to delve into any details regarding the game but steadfastly reluctant to get into issues pertaining to Hunt, who led the NFL with 1,327 rushing yards as a rookie last season.
The Chiefs issued a statement saying Hunt was "not truthful" in his discussions with the organization when asked earlier this year about the incident, which took place in a Cleveland hotel hallway, and they promptly cut him. The NFL also put Hunt on the commissioner's exempt list, preventing him from playing or practicing for another team until the league completes its investigation and issues a ruling.
In an ESPN interview that aired before the day's games, Hunt apologized and said he was "embarrassed" by the release of the video.

Patrick Mahomes addresses Kareem Hunt after Chiefs win

Modal Trigger
Patrick Mahomes and Kareem HuntGetty Images

Patrick Mahomes addressed former teammate Kareem Hunt on Sunday, following the Chiefs’ first game without the star running back, who was released Friday after a video surfaced of the 23-year-old attacking a woman in Cleveland.

“I saw the stuff that happened. We don’t do those things,” said Kansas City’s quarterback, according to ESPN, following the team’s 40-33 win over the Oakland Raiders.
Hunt broke his silence Sunday, detailing the February incident to ESPN’s Lisa Salters.
“It was just a long night,” he said. “To be exact, it don’t really matter what happened. I was in the wrong. I could have took responsibility and made the right decision to find a way to de-escalate the situation.”
Both Hunt and Mahomes were drafted by the Chiefs in 2017. Their working relationship abruptly ended Friday, two days before Kansas City battled Oakland.

“It was a little bit of shock, with the things going on. It came at us pretty fast here. But life moves fast, and it doesn’t wait for anybody,” said receiver Chris Conley. “I’ve reached out to him, hoping that he gets the help that he needs and that he can grow as a man, and really, the focus is on Kareem as a person, not the football player right now.”
With the NFL currently investigating an alleged second incident involving Hunt, coach Andy Reid stated he doesn’t want the outside noise infecting the locker room.
“Those kinds of things are never easy,” he noted. “I don’t want to get anything to distract from how tough a place this is to play [and] my locker room leadership overcoming the situation we had there, which can be a distraction, and [they] stepped up today in a place that we haven’t always come out with this kind of result.”
The Chiefs replaced Hunt with veteran Spencer Ware, who was drafted by the Seahawks in the sixth round back in 2013.

C.J. Anderson, Charcandrick West will visit Chiefs for Monday workouts

The Kansas City Chiefs are bringing in familiar faces to try out at running back, including Charcandrick West and C.J. Anderson.

Three days after the release of running back Kareem Hunt, the Kansas City Chiefs will host a couple of free agent backs who could help replace his production when they bring in C.J. Anderson and Charcandrick West for a visit on Monday.
News broke on Sunday shortly after the Chiefs road win over the Oakland Raiders that general manager Brett Veach was going to kick the tires on some veteran help at the position. Chiefs coaches and execs will be plenty familiar with Anderson after watching him run for the Denver Broncos in recent years, and of course, West has been a familiar face in K.C. for years.

Anderson, who is 27-years-old, was released by the Carolina Panthers in mid-November after signing a one year deal with the team in free agency back in May. The Panthers decided to move on after Anderson played less than expected as a security blanket for second-year pro Christian McCaffrey. The Stanford product has enjoyed a tremendous breakout year in 2018 and little room was left for Anderson to pick up meaningful snaps.
Anderson crossed the 1,000-yard mark for the Broncos just one year ago in 2017, as he ran 245 times for 1,007 yards and 3 touchdowns—good for 4.1 yards/carry average. The Broncos moved on from Anderson after five seasons, a span in which Anderson put up 20 rushing touchdowns and a career average of 4.4 yards/carry.
West was released earlier this year shortly before the regular season started when it was clear he wouldn’t make the final roster. He signed with the New York Jets shortly thereafter, but he failed to make the team after a quick preseason stint. West had 266 career rushes in K.C. for 999 yards and 7 touchdowns over four seasons.
For the Chiefs, the team is deciding how they want to split the reps and develop the offense without Hunt as the central back, a player who was a tremendous asset as a fourth down bell cow who was also dangerous as a pass catcher in space. Spencer Ware is the new starter, at least in the interim, and the Chiefs also have scatback Damien Williams on the roster as well as rookie free agent Darrel Williams, who played behind Derrius Guice at Louisiana State last season.
Anderson entered the NFL as a rookie free agent himself in 2013 with the Broncos out of the University of California. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2014.

REPORT: NFL Told the Chiefs to Stop Pursuing the Kareem Hunt Video

It appears that the NFL and the Kansas City Chiefs knew of Hunt's problematic nature far before anyone else.

In a recent report by Nate Taylor of The Athletic, multiple sources have informed him that the Chiefs and the NFL knew of the Kareem Hunt video in February, but chose to launch their own investigation.

Really?

Not a great look for the NFL, who are already under fire for their actions against domestic abuse in the league.

The NFL went as far to actually stop the Chiefs from pursuing the video after learning of it's existence. The league wanted to launch it's own investigation into the incident, yet no sort of punishment was made towards Hunt.

Instead, they kept the video secret until TMZ could finally get their hands on the problematic tape. The NFL's ability to handle off-field actions by their players has proven to be inefficient and concerning once again.

What sort of investigation doesn't include questioning Hunt or the woman involved?

The NFL obviously didn't do nearly enough in their investigation and instead wanted to keep the whole ordeal under raps. This is the same league that launched a full scale investigation into Deflategate and put together an 82-page report for the incident.

One has to start questioning where the NFL's priorities lie.

The NFL’s Kareem Hunt investigation has Cleveland police very confused

Police in Cleveland have opened an internal investigation into the response to the February incident involving former Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt, the department announced Wednesday.
The department has determined following an internal review that a member of the Cleveland Division of Police provided a copy of the police report regarding the Feb. 10 assault at a downtown hotel called The Metropolitan at the 9 to a representative of the NFL back in February.
But the “report did not go through the official public records request process,” department officials announced Wednesday in its public records center. As a result, the department is now overseeing an internal probe into the “overall response” to the incident in which Hunt, 23, was seen on video pushing and kicking a 19-year-old woman identified as Abigail Ottinger of Ohio.
The Kansas City Star reports that the delivery of that report wasn’t included on a list obtained by the newspaper showing requests for records pertaining to the incident via Ohio’s open records law. The list indicated no request by league officials until TMZ published the brutal footage Nov. 30.
Hunt was later sent home from the Chiefs’ practice facility after the video surfaced and was placed on the Commissioner Exempt list. The Chiefs then released him, and he remains unsigned after clearing waivers.
Team officials, meanwhile, never made a formal records request regarding the incident, according to public records reviewed by the Kansas City Star. Several news organizations, however, as well as someone named “Greg T” and another woman named Kelly Ottinger, did seek various records from police in the aftermath of the alleged assault.
An individual named Jordan Carpenter, who indicated he was employed by the NFL, filed a request for unedited police reports, police records, 911 call, surveillance footage and other info connected to the “incident involving multiple individuals” at the hotel on Feb. 10, according to the Kansas City Star.
League officials said late Tuesday that they had “multiple verbal conversations” with cops in Cleveland and sought out video footage upon learning of the incident.
“In addition, NFL representatives also made requests for surveillance video to the hotel property,” Brian McCarthy, the league’s vice president of communications, told ESPN. “We also obtained and reviewed the material developed by the police, which included the written reports prepared by the officers who responded to the incident, and later the interviews that were recorded by body cams and the recordings of the 911 calls.”
Hunt has apologized for the February incident, telling ESPN on Sunday that he was “extremely embarrassed” by his actions seen on the video. Video footage of another alleged assault involving Hunt has since emerged in the aftermath of the original video.
