Default New project ( 78 C10 )

New thread, little better organized. lol

I found a 1978 Scottsdale earlier this year. Here is the story, with some progress posts to follow:

The truck was purchased new at a local chevrolet dealership. Optioned with the 350, automatic, rally wheels, and air conditioning.

The same fella had the truck until about 1999-2000. He took the truck to a local body shop, after purchasing all new GM sheetmetal for the whole truck. The truck was nicely put together, and painted a nice grey color. About a year after the paintjob he popped the motor and sold the truck to a friend of mine, who pulled the motor, and sat the truck in his barn for about 15 years.

I picked the truck up, and got a fresh 327 w/350 heads and an RV cam ready to go into it. I still have the 350 that came in the truck from the factory, but I'm waiting to built it up a bit later.

Got the truck home and in the garage, and got started on installing my 5/7 drop (Spindles springs shocks, flip kit, shackles) new brakes, new brake lines, and a few other odds and ends.

hood off. lol

The body is REALLY straight on this thing:

Looks kinda green under the LED lights. It is charcoal grey, and appears to have been frame off restored back in the late 90's.

What about having an interior shop do a custom interior instead of buying LMC stuff?

Gotta ask waht did you pay for it? you can pm.

Those trucks are starting to go up in value like crazy. The money people are getting for rust free clean trucks is

I like OEM stuff. Just want to keep it simple inside, I'm even going to get a new single speaker for the dash and use the factory AM/FM radio. Plus with the factory bucket seats and console i'm getting, the rest being factory will just look right. For all new stuff from LMC ( Carpet, dash pad, door panels, visors, seat belts ) It will be about $700. Plus another $250 for the seats and console. I've already got a case of stinger sound shield I'll put down when I have the interior all gutted too. The only aftermarket piece on the inside will be a classy wood steering wheel. That's a must for me.

Nothing is set in stone though. lol. Got to get it running and driving first!

I had a Western 5/7 kit, it was nice for the price. I'd probably just cut out/weld in a c-notch if I had to do it again over cutting it and drilling all those holes for a bolt in notch.

Truck looks good

Yea, I'm going to have my buddy help me with the notch, so we may go either route.

I think I'm going to do the Mcgaughy's kit and sell what parts I don't use.

http://www.mcgaughys-suspension.com/...93151/#reviews

I'll probably add an adjustable shackle in the rear to make it a 4.5/7 drop if it doesn't sit even at 4.5/6.

Very very cool.

I remember growing up, I abhorred the square bodies. Then I bought my 88 Suburban, 4x4, 4spd Detroit and it changed my outlook completely.

After I get the motor in, everything else should go pretty quickly. I'll update this thread as I get more stuff!

The factory C10 buckets and console I found are in great shape. A little dirty, but no tears, burns, or wear marks!

These are my main reason for wanting to do camel/tan interior. I really think it will look nice, and different than the black that everyone always goes with.

So I take the hood off, ready to clean up years worth of oil and grime and crap from the engine bay and frame...... And there is none. lol

Talk about an easy start! Motor should be in next week. Gotta do some maintenance on my engine hoist first.

I'm going to extend some wires, and re-run stuff with a nice clean wire tuck after I make sure it starts and runs with the existing connections.

Someday, broski. When I do an LS it's going to get about $8000 in porter built suspension at the same time. Drop member, coil overs and 5 link rear, 4 wheel discs, bla bla bla. That's a long-term goal. Lol

It might need one, but it's going to have to get by with the SBC for now. I really really want to do a 700r4 from bowtie overdrives. Their stage2 trans is plenty stout and having OD and that short 1st gear should really make the truck run out nice with the 327. We'll see. If I don't need to buy a new carb or any other parts to get the 327 going then the 700r4 is quite likely going to happen soon.

700r4 swap is easy enough. There's an extra set of holes to move the cross member, and I welded on a piece of 1/4" to the back side of the stock member to mount to (at least on an 80s). You just need to know if your trans/convertor are lockup or not. Painless makes a lockup controller or you can use a vacuum switch. Might need a driveshaft shortened also.
