Daredevil cast teases new villains for second season of Netflix series

Season two of the show based on the Marvel comic book sees Daredevil face two major foes: Frank Castle (aka The Punisher) and an old flame, Elektra

On Sunday, at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, Charlie Cox, who plays the titular Marvel superhero (whose secret identity is blind lawyer Matt Murdock), spoke of the fears he had in returning to the series.
“The danger of a second season is you have to reinvent it a little bit, or you tell the same story,” said Cox. “But as the scripts were coming in, I was incredibly impressed at how they managed that fine line, while evolving.”
Much of that reinvention had to do with the new show-runners, Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez, who have replaced Steven DeKnight.

The debut season of Daredevil followed Murdock as he slowly evolved into his crime fighting alter-ego. Cox teased that the new episodes will explore what Murdock does with his newfound identity and fame.
“Now that he’s so much more visible, he’s a symbol that is instantly recognizable,” said the actor. “That has to kind of inform his actions – and has to inform the decisions he makes. He has to be more responsible.”

Asked why superheroes fascinate audiences on such a grand scale, Cox said: “I think it taps into the child in all of us: we love the idea of being able to battle and defeat our difficulties, whether the difficulty is a Green Goblin … or simply a character flaw.”
Last season, Daredevil battled Wilson Grant Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), a powerful businessman and crime lord whose attempts to destroy and rebuild New York’s Hell’s Kitchen district were thwarted.
Season two sees Daredevil face two major foes from the comic book: Frank Castle (aka The Punisher) and an old flame, Elektra.
The Punisher (The Walking Dead’s Jon Bernthal) is, like Daredevil, a vigilante who aims to clean up Hell’s Kitchen. He differs by employing deadly methods.

“So much of the first season was about Matt dealing with his decision to be a hero,” said Bernthal. “Here comes this guy who’s really not concerned with that. As far as superpowers [go], his superpower is his rage, and that he’s not going to quit.”
As for the mysterious assassin Elekra, actor Élodie Yung said she tried to capture the “coldness” of the comic book heroine.
“Elektra is kind of a sociopath,” Yung said. “Her world is a chess game. What movivates her is what she wants. She will use anything she needs to use to get to her goal.”
“But on the other hand, we wanted to create a character with different layers. I think she’s not a bad or good person – she’s a person with different traits. In this season there’s an arc to her story, and you’ll find out who she is by the end of it.”

DAREDEVIL's Lie Detector Ability Works On Everyone But Elektra

Daredevil will have a very 'interesting' relationship with Elektra in season 2 of the superhero drama. "Matt, who has this sort of ability to be a human lie detector, because he’s emotionally attached to [Elektra], it skews his ability to be able to know whether or not she’s telling the truth.."

Matt Murdock's enhanced hearing gives him the ability to listen to someone's heartbeat and determine whether they're lying or telling the truth. It's an ability that comes in very handy as a public lawyer. However, the blind, Hell's Kitchen lawyer won't be able to use this ability on his old college flame, Elektra Natchios.

Head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb shed some new light on Elektra and Daredevil's relationship when the show returns for season 2. The two have a past relationship from Matt's college days but it seems Elektra left Matt behind for mysterious reasons. In season 2, she's back and she's asking Matt for a favor (what that favor is, remains a mystery). Is she one the run from The Hand? Does she need a lawyer? Elektra's motivations should become clear as more promotional material is released in the coming weeks. However, what was revealed about the character at the Winter TCA press tour is that she will challenge Matt to come to grips with why he's wearing a costume at night and fighting criminals. Where season 1 was Matt Murdock's journey to become a hero, season 2 will tackle the question of why he wants to be a hero. What is it that Matt's working towards each and every time he dons the Daredevil costume?

Loeb stated, "I think one of the things that’s dynamic about Elodie’s performance is that you never quite know if Elektra’s telling you the truth. Matt, who has this sort of ability to be a human lie detector, because he’s emotionally attached to her, it skews his ability to be able to know whether or not she’s telling the truth or he’s being manipulated, or is she actually not manipulating him? That kind of interaction, and I think the natural emotion that was going on between Charlie and Elodie that we captured on film, added a great deal of spark to it. Particularly, given that Karen Page is an equally strong and independent woman who has her own story that’s going on throughout the series. As you will watch it unfold, you get very caught up in the push and pull of Matt Murdock’s life."

Daredevil Season 2 To Have Hallway Fight Scene Homage 'On Crack'

One of Daredevil's defining moments as a series came in its second episode. The stunt coordinators, camera crew, directors and cast masterfully pulled off an impressive and brutal fight continuous shot fight scene stretching down a narrow hallway.

The highly anticipated second season will not only raise the stakes with its fight scenes but will also pay homage to the epic scene from its first season. "In terms of this season, there are a number of really good fights," Daredevil star Charlie Cox told a group of reporters at a TCA press event. "There is one in particular that I'm really excited about because it's kind of like an homage to that scene, but it's almost like that scene on crack."

With the second season comes with a pair or new character audiences are hungry to catch a glimpse of: Elodie Yung's Elektra and Jon Bernthal's The Punisher. They'll only fuel the fight scene fire according to Bernthal. "I think once you introduce a character like Frank Castle, once you introduce a character like Elektra, the stakes are raised a little bit in terms of the fighting," Bernthal said. "All of the sudden you're talking about weapons. Different questions are being brought up. I think what is the genius of Phil Silvera, the fight coordinator and stunt coordinator who choreographs these fights, is the fights are all character-driven and the fights tell a story. It's not just to look pretty or to look cool."

DAREDEVIL: New Look At Jon Bernthal As 'The Punisher'; Awesome Scene Description Revealed

"Get outta here Red!" Along with two awesome new images of Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher, we have a scene description which appears to tease an alliance of sorts between him and Daredevil.

The latest issue of Empire Magazine has an awesome feature on Jon Bernthal's Punisher from Daredevil season two, and among their revealing chat with the actor is a lengthy description of a scene which takes place between Frank Castle and The Man Without Fear at a fairly late stage in the season. Shockingly, it sounds like these two may at some point put their differences aside after clashing.
The actor playing Man Justifiably Terrified By The Punisher wrenches open the door and limps through the cabin into his chambers. After a beat, Bernthal - assault rifle in the ready position - follows. Gunfire is exchanged, and the scene ends with The Punisher standing over the man as he begs for his life. Bernthal takes out a handgun anf puts it in the man's mouth. Lost in character, Bernthal calls the man a "cocksucker."

And then, just as Frank is about to Castle the poor chap, in barges Charlie Cox as that do-gooding Daredevil. "GET OUTTA HERE RED!" yells Bernthal, a line which tells us that, though their methods are different, The Punisher and Daredevil have formed an alliance of sorts. What happens next - Castle leaping up and pushing Daredevil out of the room - tells us that alliance is fairly brittle.

'The Punisher' Takes Aim At The Man Without Fear In New DAREDEVIL Season 2 Poster

We're getting closer and closer to the premiere of Daredevil season two, and Marvel has today released a new poster featuring Frank Castle/The Punisher along with an interview with Jon Bernthal.

Mouse over video for audio

Marvel has released a new poster for Daredevil season two which puts the spotlight firmly on Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle/The Punisher, and he looks none too impressed with the hero's mask. Is this a sign that the vigilante will unmask The Man Without Fear in the series? We'll have to find out when the show premieres on March 18th! The full interview can be found by clicking on the link below, but here's what Bernthal had to say about the similarities between Frank Castle and Matt Murdock.
Look, I think what makes this show so special is what Charlie’s done with Matt and with Daredevil; what he’s done with that is highly unique and they did not want a guy playing just another super hero. I mean, he’s created a fully realized, fully nuanced character and I think that’s what you need to do with Frank Castle as well. So yes, I think both these men have gone through real trauma in their lives and they’re out for justice in their own very, very unique and different ways.

A big part of Matt Murdock is he needs to be one very bad day away from being Frank Castle. That’s the crux of their conflict: “You don’t know what I’ve been through. You don’t know what I’m all about. Get out of my way.” And this sort of concern for the greater good is something that I think is secondary to this man at this point. What’s interesting is you find these two characters that are so alike and so different and then when they collide, they just learn from each other.

Jon Bernthal Says His Punisher Is Completely Unapologetic

Jon Bernthal is ready to dish out some punishment as Frank Castle in the upcoming Season 2 of Netflix's Daredevil. The second season, which looks exponentially darker than the first, and seems to explore the broad spectrum of vigilantism.

Recently, Bernthal sat down with Marvel to talk about his portrayal of the Punisher and the contrast between him and Daredevil with some insight on how Castle will be represented this time around. When asked about if Bernthal found sympathy for Castle, if that reflects in his performance, he responded how it's the opposite for him.
"For me, it’s to be completely unapologetic and to move forward one hundred percent and not concern yourself," he said. "When you’re involved in something that’s very brutal and you know your audience is going to abandon you because of your actions, don’t shy away from that. Just do it. Don’t make it a half-measure; don’t take your foot off the accelerator. Go full force, and trust that you will have the opportunity down the road to show why [you did that]."

Bernthal also commented that he felt that Frank was coming from a "genuine place" and there's a risk involved when taking on these sort of characters because you could lose the audience. "I think you just have to do that with a character like this and the great thrill for me, of playing a character on television, is the ability to lose them and win them back."

Does Daredevil Get A New Costume In Season 2?

The latest Daredevil trailer arrived earlier today and with it, apparently, a new costume for Mr. Murdock.
Initially seen after Daredevil and Elektra take out a group of baddies in a New York City building, Daredevil's eyes are seen glowing with a red color while Elektra looks to him.
Later, when Murdock is holding his mask in his hand as if her we were looking at it even though he can't, the mask clearly has red eyes. Last season, the eyes certainly weren't red by the time he was sporting the entire Daredevil getup.
The rest of the costume seems the same as the one seen by the end of season one but it's possible there are a few alterations there, as well.

Jon Bernthal is Ready for a Punisher Series

(Photo: Empire Magazine) Jon Bernthal makes his debut as Punisher in Daredevil season 2 on March 18 on Netflix, but the actor tells Empire he's already ready for his own series, too.

"This guy is very much burned into my heart and soul," he told the magazine. "I think about him all the time. And I look at it the same way Frank would look at it. I’m a soldier, man. If they call on me, I’ll stand to attention and I’ll be ready."

Bernthal loves the contrast between the relatively no-nonsense Punisher and the flashy Daredevil in this season of TV, though.

"Frank is so filled with rage and despair that this idea of a guy prancing around in a costume with little horns beating up bad guys is absurd to him. It’s ripe for a character like Frank to come in and shit on that," he said.

He also clarifies that this isn't a team-up: Daredevil and Punisher are definitely against each other in this season, though they'll be able to see each others' sides.

"What’s really interesting is that these guys are absolute enemies, but they start to understand each other."

Damn of all people, I'm shocked. Not to mention Luke Cage, Wildcat, Night Nurse, and Nuke. Along with mention of Daredevil.

I think it had more to do with Kristen Ritter, She's hot but didn't really connect with me. Might give it another shot with DD dropping this month.
