Default White Evo vs. SRT4 151st Joco Airport area, 8/18

As I was coming home from a soccer game, I spotted what appeared to be an Evo up the road aways. (Evo 8, wingless, white, black wheels) I thought I might go take a peak as I haven't fooled around with any STi's or Evo's really since I've had the car. I cruise past him, debating whether or not I want to run as I've been having fuel cut issues at WOT due to a faulty fuel pump. ANYWAY, we catch each other at a light and we both look at each other. He nudges as if he wants to race and I ask what he has done. He replies "it's all stock!" and gives me a little rev. I told him 1st gear pull at 20. Once we get moving again, I honk 3 times and immediately, he pulls on me as my tires break loose. FWD ftl. I get into second and the tires are still grasping for grip before we both have to shut down because of a dump truck. I let him get around the dump truck and we line up again doing about a 40 roll in 2nd. I again, honk 3 times and immediately, he pulls on me as my tires break loose again. He put about a good car on me and I slowly but surely was reeling him in until I hit dreaded fuel cut WOT shifting into 4th and immediately shut down. I caught him at the next light and I recall him saying something about W2 cams and something else done? I can't quite remember. Anyway, thanks for my first good runs against an Evo if you're on here guy! Fun stuff!

Fuel cut? - I'm not sure what your describing, but if you REALLY do have the Fuel pump issues associated with the SRT-4, you likely have damaged something as the stock fuel systems on these are not the greatest.

Are you sure your not over boosting the stock MAP? That will cause a hard studder and usually a nice backfire after you let off.

Best be getting that looked at...

Wellll, we've had issues with the rewire since I got the car so we redid the fuel pump rewire and the fuel pump definitely has some miles on it but I very well could be wrong. I've just been babying her getting to work and home. That's the first time I've layed into it for awhile but I do need to put some time aside and figure out the problem.

If the rewire isn't installed properly it will cause a number of issues. Not good to have a fuel issue and going WOT bro, you are just asking for trouble.

what's your set up on the srt4. Sounds like some good runs until the fuel cut.

Also does the srt4 have an upgraded HPFP option? I know the FSI GTI's do and it's an almost must if your going past Stage 1.

Never heard of "fuel cut" on an SRT4. I'd do some more digging as to what's going on. (Sounds silly but i gotta ask... from rereading you post you sure ur not just bouncing off the rev limiter since the "fuel cut" seems to happen during WOT shifting?)

What mods do you have and how much boost are pushing? Good race.

Funny to see this. If this is the guy I tink it is he's an acquaintance of mine and was telling me about this thismorning, I thought he had said he got pulled pretty good. I'll give him a heads up to check this thread out.

How many psi of boost are you running? when I had my srt4 I had a aftermarket wastegate and it was set at 19psi. I would get fuel cutoff at the top of 3rd. Just a thought.

I think this evo lives down the street from me. I see it going through the neighborhood all of the time and parked in a garage spot/drive way.

Seemed like a nice guy, he waived back the last time I saw him.

It had the lip on the deck lid but to be honest I can't remember if it had a front lip on it or not. It sounded great though I do remember that. Lol

Definitely wasn't my smartest decision I've made. I've been staying out of it though but still, I understand where you're coming from. It could have ended badly lol

No it does not. I just got injectors, fuel pump, e85, exhaust, intake, dsp tuned, blahhh blahh blah.

Thanks man, dsp tuned, injectors, fuel pump, exhaust, intake, n2mb box, e85, about 22lbs on stock turbo, definitely not the rev limiter. I gotta run over the n2mb wiring too because That very well could be a factor.

Well he definitely was the one doing the pulling, not me. Lol

About 22lbs on internal wastegate and stock turbo.

The guy was really cool. Just some good friendly racing. Apparently the Evo in question is for sale too!

last time I saw the car, it was in the drive way with the front end all torn off. I wanted to stop and introduce myself but wasn't sure how some stranger in a old rust bucket honda walking up would have gone over lol.

I wanna do that with with a guy who lives a few blocks from me with a supra in the garage. Found out a few days ago, somebody on here knows him.

Do you have the red mr2 on wheels that sat for a good 2-3 years in the drive way?

Fuel cut sounds like the wot box is set to cut fuel for too long during wot shift. You could set it a little lower, like 150 ms, and see if that helps. If its set to high it will stumble and fall on its face. Good races though, I would really like to find an EVO to run.
