NEWS UPDATE ON I-70 SPEEDWAY...
Old pavement is being removed new dirt will be put on.
The track will NOT be the original size they are making it smaller

Concrete is being poured for new seating.

Enjoy the new pics as I sit back and watch these men work on this awesome dirt track know as I-70 Speedway.
FYI: From the owner: the tack will be a big 3/8th banking will just a bit down but he informed me it will be the high banked.

The track will be moved in on both turns and RV and truck parking will be available on each end of the turns
10 VIP suites will be built on the front stretch.

Well that doesn't sound a lot like a drag strip

I'd advise against popping in at I-70 Speedway! Serious work going on. We need to let these guys work! Ground leveling for the new dragstrip behind the grandstand concession stand is happening and the historic I-70 wall will stay as is. There will be a run off area at each end of the new track, since a smaller diameter oval racing surface is more practical.

in between the two smoke plooms from right to behind building is said to be the start of the grading for the drag strip

Which poses the question. If you don't have all of the correct approvals in place, why would you go through the effort of doing all the work and spending all of the money? If they say no there will be a really nice dirt track and drag strip that no one can use.

I-70 Motorsports Park earns conditional use permit to reopen in Odessa

LEXINGTON, Mo. -- Planning commissioners gave developers the green flag Wednesday night to start finalizing plans to reopen the old I-70 Speedway.
At a meeting last month in Odessa in front of hundreds of racing fans, commissioners asked the county attorney to draw up the conditions a developer would have to meet to reopen the track.
But commissioners voiced several new concerns Wednesday at a meeting at Lafayette Hall in Lexington.
Their main concerns were noise and traffic. One commissioner was surprised sound and traffic studies, required before developers submit a final site plan, hadn't already been done.

But racing fans have wondered why there are these new concerns for a track with a 40-year history of racing.
Then known as I-70 Speedway, the track closed in 2008. The developer behind Heartland Motorsports Park in Topeka recently bought it and ripped up the pavement and the trees growing in the middle of the track. He then started grading out a 3/8-mile dirt track and the site for a quarter-mile drag strip.
But he hit a snag with the permit.
One commissioner was particularly concerned with what would happen in the event of a tornado at a race with up to 8,000 fans.
ďI wouldnít want my wife to take my kids some place with not enough exits and something happened and someone would say who allowed this to happen?" the commissioner said.

The track's owner, Chris Payne, told commissioners he'd cancel events if there were threats of severe weather.
Other conditions for permit approval include a direct contact number for neighbors to call with traffic complaints, a set number of traffic control personnel depending on race attendance, a maximum of 70 racing events from April to October, and a sound limit of no more than 85 decibels within 250 feet of property.
ďOur job here is to make informed decisions, and thatís why we want to get the most information we can get," the planning commission chairman told the audience.
ďI think everything they are asking for is for reasonable. They might have tried to find out more on their own rather than waiting for people to bring them information. That could have sped process up quicker. But I donít think the process they went through was out of line on anything," Cindy Dickmeyer said.
The conditional use permit still needs to go before the full Lafayette Council council for approval.

Hahaha....there is no way they could meet the 85db sound level.

How many neighbors does this place have? Because they will complain just like kcir neighbors.

After construction delays, I-70 Motorsports Park in Odessa sets August opening

ODESSA, Mo. ó Itís going to be a few months later than planned, but I-70 Motorsports Park in Odessa has set an opening date for August.
Chris Payne, the developer and new owner of the old I-70 Speedway, said weather and construction delays have pushed things back a bit. He originally planned for a May opening for the dirt track.

County commissioners voiced concerns about noise and traffic initially, delaying when he planned to start construction work. Just this week, he received final approval from Lafayette County. The recent weather hasnít helped either.
Races scheduled for May, June and July have been canceled.
But now Payne said the historic race track ó with a new look ó will open for its first official race August 17. The event will feature ASCS Sprint cars and Late Model stock cars at the dirt track.
And the track already has another ASCS Sprint car event scheduled for a few weeks later on Sept. 7.
The famed I-70 Speedway operated in Odessa from 1969 to 2008. It was shut down for a decade before Payne took ownership of it to bring racing back to Lafayette County.
