Default Ductless mini split heating and air

Anyone have any experience with this?

Bought a rental that is from 1912 and the furnace is ancient and the ductwork isnt really sufficient for heat or AC for the upstairs rooms.

Looking for good quality ductless mini splits that don't break the bank. Need one for each bedroom (3) and one for the main living space. Total sq footage is like 1400 ft but each bedroom is pretty small... like 120 sq ft.

I've looked for some window units to do the same thing as they are about half the price but would prefer the more efficient Mini split units.

Also taking suggestions on installers in Lawrence. People who can work off the clock or for themselves. Must be honest/fast/reliable.

Going with something like that seems alot more expensive than just throwing in a new furnace. Do you have any ductwork already up to the 2nd floor?

Been cruising that site. Do you have any experience with mini splits?

The ductwork is not sufficient upstairs. The home is lathe and plaster so it's not exactly ideally for running ductwork. Trying to cool an upstairs in a 1900's house isn't easy which is why if every room has it's own unit it would be easier and controllable by each room.

A new system with ductwork would be well over 7k and no guarantee that it would cool. The window units cool each room just fine. I also don't have to pay utiliities so that's not relevant for me.

^^^^

You will be over $7K with the mini splits and you still need to run the refrigerant lines in the wall.

Thanks for the reply. My concern would be not enough sufficient heat available.

I see the nice Mitsubishi quad split (4 zone systems) for under $5k. As you said though there is much more in costs with the install. Self install won't provide the warranty either.

Some of the other brands have them in the 3500 range.

My guess is I will keep the furnace and put in new window units that are higher efficiency. I will pick window units that also can heat to provide supplemental heat to the upstairs.

Correct on the heat, these are only heat pumps so their heat might not be sufficient.

Along with the cost of what you see is the picture, you will need the lines sets, covers for the lines if you run them exposed plus a few other items which will add about another $1K to the system.
