Another file knife completed. - KCSR

I know not much happens here, but I finished my third knife and wanted to share it.

At this point all my knifes have been made from old files. This one was my first attempt at acid washing the blade… I like the finish, but need to work on a more even application…*I think it might have to do with my hardening process. Anyways, here are the pics. Next I need to finish the sheath.

I'm flattered.

…but the truth is it takes me so long to complete one I don't do orders.

If I ever invested in better equipment, I'll let you know, but this is all by hand in little chunks of free time over the course of a year.

I think even a small harbor freight 1x30 belt sander would cut alot of your time down rather then doing it all by hand. Are you annealing them and re heat treating them at all?

i have a 1x30 sander and while it is "easier" I can file them down in my homemade jig just as quick.

I find the 1x30 sander is more useful for bridging the gap between finish filing and hand handing at higher grits. Im thinking about trying to fab a solid 2" setup to help hog off metal in the early stages. (using actual knife stock would help in this too…)

I do anneal and reheat treat them. But its just by my eyeball, so nothing super technical, but they seems to be working out –*you can see a slight hamon line on the above blade.
