Default Silverado 2500hd transfer case position

I bought a truck recently and have been having an issue with the transfer case position sensor, or so i believe. While driving the indicator light on the dash that is to illuminate when in 4wd will turn on. I have the np2 manual shifting transfer case so i know it is not in 4x4 but when the light is illuminated there is a noise that is mostly noticeable when coming to a stop. I presume it trying to engage. I never hear the noise when the light is off. Any techs on here or anyone that could possibly confirm that selector switch is going bad? Or any other components that should be investigated? Thanks in advance.
